Of course, about 3 months after I bought it, library books became available for the Kindle. I highly recommend the Kindle over the Nook. The e-ink is better on the Kindle so the words show up better. The Nook seems kind of clunky and I have a harder time navigating it. It just doesn't seem as well laid out as the Kindle. And the battery on the Kindle far outlasts the battery on the Nook. We also have an Ipad and I love it, but I don't like to read on it for long periods of time. The screen hurts my eyes. So for that reason I don't recommend the Kindle Fire or Nook Color. The e-ink on the regular Kindle is just like reading a book. I can't say enough good things about my Kindle. The only thing I would do differently would be to buy the 3G version, not just the WiFi version, because I would like to be able to buy books anywhere.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11218937.post-56135625145275868672012-03-04T05:36:31.170-08:002012-03-04T05:36:31.170-08:00Both of my parents and I have nooks and we love th...Both of my parents and I have nooks and we love them. My parents are more technology-challenged and they had no trouble learning to use the nook. We have also had great customer service experiences at our local Barnes and Nobel. My experience has been that it is easy to get books from a wide variety of sources with the nook. There are websites for public domain books on the internet, plus the downloads from the public library. No matter what device you choose, you should definitely get an e-ink screen. It feels just like reading a real book and will not hurt your eyes.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11218937.post-65878328843407955772012-03-04T01:08:14.987-08:002012-03-04T01:08:14.987-08:00Well lots would depend on if you want to buy books...Well lots would depend on if you want to buy books to keep them forever or check them out on your e-reader from your local library. So the first trip would be to the library website to see what you have access to for free. Then, you need to know that the publishing world is not quite sure what to do with e-readers. Penguin for instance is hassling libraries and making checking out books difficult and cumbersome.
If you want to buy, I love my Kindle. Easy to use, so much so that I download my textbooks for my masters program on it for a great price. Battery lasts crazy long if you turn off the wireless and lighting is better for ahem, older eyes.
So check out your library, talk to the librarians to see what e-readers they support and then read away. Oh, and no e-readers don't float. Trust me on this. :)Taminoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11218937.post-17814154038847761042012-03-03T23:41:46.676-08:002012-03-03T23:41:46.676-08:00I have the Kindle and LOVE LOVE LOVE it - my husba...I have the Kindle and LOVE LOVE LOVE it - my husband has a Kindle Fire and he loves that for playing online but uses his regular kindle for reading. Mine is a first generation and the battery lasts forever with the 3G/wifi off. I'm an ex-pat, so I love being able to get English-language books whenever and wherever I want. In theory I love that I can get on an airplane with just my Kindle and not a whole backpack full of books (I'm a fast reader) but I also travel with a 4 year old and a 1 year old so I'm either entertaining kids on planes or sleeping when they're sleeping.Courtney in Cretenoreply@blogger.com
