Chinese birthday party activities

Everyone was hopping during the birthday party, it seems like the time just flew by. The kids were happily busy with Mulan, who told stories, did a little magic, and painted Chinese characters on faces. She was wonderful. It was fascinating to see Ro and Ree’s intent eyes when they first spotted their idol. They were enchanted. Still are:

I love how Ro decorated her fan with a Mulan character and is subtly showing it to her:Mulan crowdDSC_8649LRDSC_8657LR-2IMG_9588-2LRIMG_9577-2LRDSC_8651LR

Mulan proclaimed that Ree and Ro were empresses for the day and gave them both crowns, which Ro didn’t take off for two days and two nights. That thing is now well crumpled and well loved.DSC_8668LR

We also had Chinese jump rope, a craft table where kiddos could decorate their own paper lanterns or fans, and plenty of outside play (it wouldn’t be a real party at our house if BobBob’s playstructure and playhouse weren’t positively crawling with kids):IMG_9537-2LR-2[3]DSC_8587LR[3]IMG_9545-2LR-2IMG_9625-2LR

DSC_8634LRWe sent all of the little girls home with silk purses filled with “treasures” that Ree and Ro picked out: gold coins, kid jewelry, Chinese yo-yos, Fun Chop chopstick helpers (the little gizmos that make chopsticks easy for kids to hold), homemade chocolate lollipops imprinted with Chinese characters,  candy, and misc other stuff. (The boys’ favors were a little different, of course.)

I know I’ve said it before, but this party was enormously FUN. Just loved pulling it together and seeing Ro and Ree enjoy it. In case you missed it, the party decorations post is here, and the dragon-cake post is here.

Where everything came from: silk purses, small candy molds and large candy molds, white paper lanterns, white paper fans, Chinese jump ropes , FUNCHOP Chopstick Helpers .

I was about to say that your party was amazing, but I think it is you that is amazing. What you do with and for your girls and for others makes me smile every time I read a post from you. The party sounded just lovely and you had perfect weather for all the outdoor festivities!

  4. You (and your great team) are nothing short of amazing!! What a wonderful party as you can tell by the kiddos! I love the stark changes in their faces. Either smiling from ear to ear in one pic or, gazing in awe at Mulan in another.

Glad the party was such a huge success!! Once again the Salsa household hosted a party to remember!!
