We had a plan this weekend. And it was a good one. TubaDad's folks even flew into town for it.
We were going to have a little Easter Egg Hunt in our backyard with a bunch of two-year-olds. We had zany pink and orange decorations, a truckload of food, and about a zillion little toy-stuffed eggs to sprinkle hither and thon. It was going to be wicked cool.
Then the girls had slight fevers on Tuesday and Wednesday morning. No big deal, right? But when I picked them up from preschool on Wednesday, I noticed ominous red spots on Ro's palms. Ever calm and cool (I joke!), I called the preschool to find out if the daily art project could be the culprit. This is when the bottom dropped out.
I learned that someone in the girls' class had come down with Hand-Foot-and-Mouth Disease (HFMD) a few days before. And thus it began...
Yada, yada, yada, both girls got it, and we ended up cancelling the party at the last minute. HFMD (I keep slipping and calling it hoof and mouth disease) isn't usually dangerous, but it's not something you want your kiddo to have, and we didn't want to risk infecting anyone (other than the grandparents, who are always fair game, haha). Oh well...
We still decorated the whole house and gamely put out our eggs. Ro and Ree didn't know that they missed out on anything, they just know that they had fun, fun, fun. They gasped with wonder to see all the decorations, put on their party dresses and danced around the family room, and ran around the yard with their brightly painted buckets grabbing every egg in sight. Then they spread out their loot on the sand table, opened every single egg, and enjoyed each toy. Adorable.
Now if we can just figure out what to do with the 15 pounds of ham we have left over...
