Girls' week (and a question)

TubaDad is in Barcelona on business this week (lucky dog!) so we're having a girls' week. Ro and Ree think we're just having loads of fun, but the real reason behind the action-packed schedule is that I know when daddy's away everyone must keep moving or else. When these little darings get bored, all hell breaks loose. DSC_1823m_ds They were being all cute and sweet in this pic, but whoooeee they can be ornery, especially when they know that they outnumber the grownups! We're hanging in there ok so far, although last night was a little hairy. (I'm not sure we're going to be welcomed back at the library...) Anyhow, today is a new day, the girls are at preschool right now, and I'm having a cup of tea and regrouping. Before I dig into the threateningly tall laundry pile, here's a recap of our week so far: We've had world-class messes: Seriously, they made this particular mess in two minutes -- just 120 seconds. Their efficiency boggles the mind. Does someone give out a trophy for most-impressive messes, or most-creative destruction of a room, or something like that? Because I'm pretty sure these girls could medal in the Olympic room-destruction event. Destroyed the playroom in 2 minutes We've had some healthy food: It's been a while since I've made bentos for the girls and they were so excited to see these little entrees. They yelled "Ooooooooo, mama!" and then "Wow, frozen corn!!!" Heh. Little sweeties gave the lunches four thumbs up and asked for seconds. And yes, the corn really is frozen, they like it that way. Whatever. It's not going to kill them. Vegetarian bento (they practically licked the plates clean!) Ro gives two thumbs up for the vegetarian bento! And we've had some not-so-healthy-but-mama's-real-tired food: Mmmm, tv dinners. They've come a long way since I was a youngin. And yes, they're wearing swimsuits. Again. No we weren't anywhere near a pool. Again. First tv dinner and so excited We've had some wildly creative outfits: DSC_1740m We've had a little attitude (from all three of us): Now look, mama, this is how it's going to be! We've had some dancing on the tables (only at home, thank goodness, but I actually dared to take them to the library after seeing these fierce little faces up on the picnic table -- not my smartest move): DSC_1930m And they've spent more time in dress-up clothes than in real clothes: Which leads me to my question. Here's a picture of Ro, the Peanut Butter and Jelly Princess. I absolutely love Ro in this pic, but the bright window was behind her and I screwed up the mechanics of the photo so I'm just not happy with the end result. Can anyone help with some Photoshop magic or some kind of abracadabra post-processing? Come on, go crazy -- anything goes and I'd love to learn some new tricks! The large original is here. Either email your coolest "fixed-it!" photo to me or post it somewhere and leave a link in the comments. I'll put the fixed photos in this Flickr photo set. Thank you! DSC_1913 Have a great rest of the week, and send some good thoughts my way because tonight is bath night for the twinados and I don't think I have enough chocolate in the house. Actually I know I don't.

  1. M3,

It must be in the air. This morning I made "goop" for the girls (cornstarch and water), which is drying on the foyer floor. I took them upstairs for a bath with bathtub crayons and bathtub paints, and Kelly pooped in the tub. She now has a massive case of diarrhea, and Sara has all but given up naps. I'm still in my pj's, unshowered, and I have some ungodly messes to clean. I'll send chocolate if you'll send wine.

    Best of luck,

    Lori
Mommy of Sara (3) and Kelly (1)

  4. I absolutely adore your girls! I'm a newly-wed and we would like to adopt eventually. I somehow found your blog and have followed you ever since!

Ok, now for my actual comment:
Is that a trumpet in the mess of all the stuffed animals? I remember my dad letting me "play" his beat up old trumpet when I was that age and I LOVED it.

  7. Hi M3,
I loved all your pics as always. Those girls have GOT some spunk! Cute! They are adorable. I also love your new blog header and design. Very fun! I think you need to have some cookie dough in the house like you did last time TubaDad was gone on business! I'm with you, gotta have loads of chocolate in the house. The adventures of Miss Ro and Ree always make me chuckle! If only I had there style as well! They are just too precious...Oh and hang in there you can do it! and the cookie dough will help!

  8. The picture of Ro is a Poster Photo, she is so cute! Now I have a question for you, have you thought of letting the girls have bangs? The last photo of Ro looks cute with little bangs showing. Most of the photos the girls have some kind of "thin" bangs instead of a clean forehead. They do look very cute with bangs.
By the way, the girls look very tall on the photo against the door. They have long model legs, how tall are they now?

  9. I just love, love your bentos. I should seriously try that for Slugger. He's not much for lunch, but I think he'd really get behind that.

By the way, Slugger just got fitted for his band instrument this year and they selected the baritone. I thought of TubaDad when I heard that. Slugger's first pick was percussion, but they decided that wasn't a good fit. He did well with several instruments in the brass family and he's thrilled with baritone. (So am I.)

  10. OK, now Slugger has a request. He'd love to hear a video of TubaDad playing the baritone. (I know Tuba is his main instrument, but he has a baritone, too, right?) Do you think TubaDad would comply?

  11. Thanks guys! For the questions:

Joy: Yep, they've got two little beater trumpets. We were kind of wary at first -- as we are when introducing any potential weapons into the house -- but they've gone over pretty well. :-)

Stacy: LOL! The cookie dough is actually waiting in the fridge. And provided it actually survives until the weekend, we'll be cracking it open for breakfast on "daddy comes home day." We all can't wait.

Mexican Chopsticks: Yeah, we think the girls look cute any way, but we're going to stick with the no-bangs look for now. They've got the wispies if we want to see some bangs or we can sweep them to the side if we feel like it (usually too lazy, haha). And let's see (I had to go check the doorframe where we measure them) they're just a hair under 38" right now. Pretty average I think, but they're wearing shoes inside of shoes in that one picture though, which makes them look a little taller.

Maggie: Yep, TubaDad's first instrument (now hanging on our family room wall) was a baritone. And please tell Slugger that he will most definitely post a video for him. He's in Spain right now, but I'll break out the video recorder as soon as he returns.

  19. 2 to 1 is never good odds! Since I clearly still need time together to learn how to tell your girlies apart I'll be there soon with a suitcase full of chocolate. Should the suitcase happen to be covered in ladybugs act surprised, k?

  26. We are having a girls week at our house too but thankfully it's just the two of us!

I just love reading about the girls' antics. What a joyful bunch those two are. I'm sure you have your not so joyful moments as well since I'm a mom of 6 now.. but honestly, those girls are a hoot and you are a great journalist of their journey through life. :0)

  27. LOL LOL LOL I just discovered your blog and had to laugh and laugh because I have twin girls as well. I had two other children before them, but then there was a 7 year gap and SURPRISE! Twin girls! My husband is Chinese/Jamaican and I am an American mutt and one girl looks like him and one looks like me with Chinese eyes. They are so cute and they caused so much trouble when they were little. Now they just have hormones and attitude and are actually loads of fun most of the time. They are now 11 and I really love to travel with them at this age. We are going to DC soon and I can't wait because I know we will all have a great time! I look forward to reading more of your blog. Keep up the good work! BTW- My philosophy with my twins was always, "Take pictures first, and ask questions later!"

If the girls like frozen corn, they should try our household favorite - "pea-sicles" (frozen peas)! Hang in there! : ) maria

  29. I think my house wins the trophy for fastest messes made. I can't even walk through my living room right now and my oldest should have a sign on the door "Enter with Shoes ON" from all the legos everywhere.

  32. Hey Jenny, Thanks! The jeans in the "2 minutes to destruction" photo were homemade, well at least the design parts were. I browsed around the fabric store, found some ribbon and flower fabric that I liked, and then begged my mom to sew them on some jeans I bought at Target.

Here are my additions to your "tweak the photo" line up. Yeah, I went a little crazy, you don't have to post the link if you don't want to-- but just for fun--
