Fashion Challenge Friday

Clothes were literally flying in the air as the girls deliberated over outfits this week. Man do I have a mess to clean up. Ree and Ro wanted to play stylist twice this week, so there are two pictures.

On Wednesday (Outfit #6), they both went in the closet at the same time, and after confirming that it was indeed pretty dang warm, "It starting to be summer, mama?" they started digging through the (previously) neatly stacked piles of warm-weather items. (I know, it's not really summer, but it hit 7o degrees, so whatever...) Ree enthusiastically chose a brand-new navy blue printed tank top from Old Navy, then looked around for something blue and summery to match it. She flat-out refused to consider jeans or long pants, and frankly wasn't thrilled with our selection of navy-blue bottoms. (Tough luck kiddo, I just spent your wardrobe budget on yellow stuff!) She finally selected some light lavender flowered capris from Gymboree then ran downstairs and got her pink flip-flops, saying that everything "matched perfectly." Um, ok. Ro made a beeline to the green section of the closet. She pulled out a limey Hanna Andersson dress/top with pink polka dots, then pawed through the summer pile until a pair of apple green and white polka-dot Children's Place leggings caught her eye. Confident with her selections she nodded briskly and said "Doze match, mama," then ran downstairs to find the green froggy boots. DSC_3356-1_text

Aw, they look kinda cute, don't they? It's hard for an uber-biased mama to tell for sure. Not at all the types of things I would have chosen for them to wear, but what fun (for all of us). Ree's outfit was a little more unconventional than Ro's, but then again so is she.

On Thursday (Outfit #7), the girls originally said they wanted me to pick their clothes. Then they changed their minds and decided they wanted to tell me what color of outfit to grab. Then they just pushed me aside and took over. Ro went for a prim and proper pink and yellow theme, complete with a demure pink polo shirt underneath. And Ree went for ... well ... I'm not sure what she was going for. My oh my. It is interesting that they kind of match each other, although with radically different personal styles. As always, they picked the hairdos and hair accessories as well, with Ro asking for braids with pink, yellow, and white bands, and Ree asking for two big ponies with lots of colors. Here's a glance back at the fashion challenge outfits so far (Ro left, Ree right):

Now it's your turn: Share the grins and show us an outfit that your kiddo put together! Important: give us the permalink* for your fashion challenge post, not a link to your homepage, so people don't have to scroll around looking for the right post. Fashion Challenge Friday is now a regular feature, so grab your camera and turn those kids loose in the closet at least once a week.

  15. Hi M3, you know, I think the Fashion Challenge is great. I haven't got any good pictures of the kids yet. I had another idea for a fashion challenge, though. How about the "Daddy Dressed Me" fashion challenge. I always get the craziest outfits when my husband does the dressing. My kids actually don't come up with crazy things too much. For 4 year olds, they do pretty good. BTW, LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the green polkadot Hannah. Laina had that same dress. It was a size 80 and we FINALLY gave it up this last fall. She was wearing it as a shirt over leggings and then the sleeves got too short. I considered cutting off the sleeves and hemming it into a short sleeved dress, but it was also getting tight over the chest, so we passed it on to my niece. It's so cute to see the dress on other kids. Have a happy weekend!!

  18. Your next fashion challenge should be about choosing bedtime attire! I never know what my sweet pea is going to choose for night time wear, but it's rarely the cute matching pjs that are in the pj drawer!

  25. THe orange colored canvas was a great color choice! The photos look like esprit or maybe benetton ads from years past. Ok, I just dated myself, because I remember those! How do you get the R2s to pose so cutely and so well?
