I would have bet anyone a million dollars, and I would have lost

Our sweethearts graduated from the little-kid class at preschool today. Craziness, I tell you, pure craziness. It seems like only a couple of months ago that they started going to preschool a few mornings a week, but actually it's been a year and a half. And in that time they have changed completely from little babies to honest-to-goodness kids.

After a brief summer vacation, they go into the Big-Girl preschool class (then one year later it'll be time for Kindgarten). Wow.

I went back into our picture archives so I could weep a little over show a nice portrait of Ree and Ro on the first day of preschool and compare it to one taken today, and GET THIS, I didn't take one single shot of them looking at a camera!!! Can anyone out there reading this right now actually believe that?! I would have bet a million dollars that I had a nice picture (or twenty or thirty) of the girls all gussied up and on their way to their first-ever morning of school. And I would have been wrong wrong wrong. Incredible. I take, oh I don't know, somewhere in the neighborhood of 15GB of pictures a month, and somehow that hugely auspicious occasion didn't merit even a few seconds of photographic attention?! Gah. I guess I'll be turning in my official mamarazzi card now.

I do have a quickie snapshot of our precious tiny girls on the playground that first day. But that's it.
Nov 2007, first day of preschool

Oh well. Here are the girls on the second or third day of preschool (doesn't have quite the same ring to it as saying "the first day," does it?). November 30, 2007, 2 years old:

And here they are today, on their last day. Ro, funnily enough, is wearing the same pink shirt on both days. May 29, 2009, 3.5 years old (18 months later and WAYYYYY grown up): DSC_8072LRs

I know everyone says this, but hold your babies tight, because in an instant they won't be babies anymore.

  1. And yet, when they are 9, going on 10, 3.5 years old will look like a BABY. Sniff...

My baby starts kindergarten in August and her big brother (my baby boy) starts 5th grade. And yes, it was just yesterday that he was 3.5 years old....POOF! It happened just like that!

Oh my goodness, that video is just precious and yes, I have blurry eyes right now! I remember who dropped the yellow lollipop when we went to see Santa. I still can't believe that "you" did that, lol.

  5. I've gotta ask..... do their teachers know there are days that they dress themselves? Their little outfits are fun and adorable but I wonder if the teachers noticed a change in your outfit taste at all?

  10. Hi Jacquie, oh yes, the teachers know -- everyone around them knows. It's kind of funny, they prance into preschool and can't wait to show off what they've picked out, and the main lady in the office always grins and carefully checks out their outfits while they point to different favorite parts.

  14. I have to laugh because my granddaughter (who lives with me) used to dress herself when she was that age. Oh boy some of the outfits...:) But they do grow up faster then you can blink an eye and they grow up into beautiful young adults. I cried when I saw my granddaughter all dressed up for Prom and remembered what she used to wear not all that long ago. I posted her pictures on my blog and I am still amazed. You have beautiful girls and they will keep you on your toes for many many years to come.

  16. You aren't kidding....the time just flies right by!!

How cute....it does seem like yesterday that they started preschool. I kind of remember a story somewhat close to the beginning. I am not sure if it was the first day or the first week of school....Isn't that when you were camped out in your car with your telephoto lens trying to catch a glimpse of them?? That story has always cracked me up!!

Hope you all have a nice weekend:)

  17. It is soooo true. We blink and they keep growing. It does seem like every 18 months is a huge step. Your girlies still have that baby stuff going on but the next 18 months is anohter big step. My Dahlia is just 6 now and I so miss the baby talk and innocence. Getting weepy now. (Awfully grateful I'm getting to do it all over again with #2.)

I love that so many of your pictures are in front of the double doors. This will be the permanent marker as they keep growing. I have the same on our stairs coming from upstairs. It's a place that marks all the stages.

Oh to press pause, or at least slow it down. Sigh.......

  18. Just wait... the next 18 months will make you weep. There is such a huge change from 3.5 years old to 5. Sob. I think I might be having another panic attack.

  19. You are so right on that last comment.. Seriously.. my older 'baby' before Maddy came along is going to graduate college in just a couple of weeks. WHAT!?? When did I get so old and when did she grow up so fast.

  20. Oh my Gosh, they are so little in that first pic!

  21. Your girls are incredibly precious. My Dad and his wife tried to adopt from China, but ended up going another route. my older guy will be starting kindergarten this fall. If it makes you feel any better, I didn't get the "First Day" pics either. I felt awful about it, LOL. The younger one starts this year - maybe I'll do better this time!

  23. It's so true!!! My babies are 11, about to be 12 in a month and they are so much fun right now, but I do miss my babies. :(

It is amazing how much Ro and Ree have changed in the last year and a half! Truely amazing.

  24. They have totally and completely grown up. I bet you didn't take a picture because you were so emotional about them going to school. Sometimes emotion takes over the photo thing. It happens to me all the time.

  25. It does go fast... doesn't it? :)

  29. The shot I always fret over is the blowing out the candles at birthday parties...I always freak, thinking I'm going to miss it. And, yes, we've re-lit candles in the past so I could get the shot I missed. lol...

  33. M3,

Sara walked out of Early Childhood 2 last Wednesday, clutching her party favor bag and year long "portfolio" of art projects, and said "OK, I guess I go to PreK now." Just like that. No tears, no please let stay in the room I love.

Apparently, crying was the Mommy's job! I love doing school all over again!

Best to you and a fun summer,

    Lori
