Today can be summed up in one word: "interesting"

The morning started out with some interesting fashion choices by the three-year-olds that kind of set the tone for the rest of the day. Ro went for a nice pink, fuschia, and ruffly outfit, but felt it was lacking the right flair to finish it off. Apparently a huge maroon headband, topped by a second striped pink headband, just pulled it all together. Ree worked her beloved yellow in there, but mixed it up a little with a ladybug tee, striped shorts, some blue star legwarmers, and her favorite multicolored sandals. (Side note: I detest those sandals. She lobbied for them on three separate Target shopping occasions, and I successfully diverted her each time. Then she went on one teeny little shopping trip with daddy, and guess who came home with the blasted things. Hmph.) DSC_1795ms My dad came over this morning, and we all took a long walk, visited the tree swing, checked out Sand Park (not its real name, just what the girls call it) and spent a whole bunch of time watching these strange blueish bees who seemed to be digging holes in the sand. I've never seen a blueish bee creature before, what the heck were they? And were they really digging tiny burrows in the sand, or were they filching something from someone else's holes? Odd. And, well, of course I got a picture. Come on, you knew I would, right? IMG_2760 IMG_2769 The walk home took an awfully long time. In part because the girls kept saying "Dis a good spot to take a break, right?" Then they'd plop right down in the middle of the sidewalk or someone's driveway or whatever and sit a spell. When I'm out with these two, I sometimes wonder what people think when they see us. Maybe it's better I don't know. IMG_2773m During lunch, the girls were originally eating at their little picnic table, but thought BobBob's shady spot on the miniature bench looked much more inviting. (I thought it looked cramped and uncomfortable, but what do I know?) So they inched closer and closer until he nearly got pushed on the ground. Ree scored the first prime seat, and when Ro figured out three people wouldn't fit she said "Dat ok, I get a bucket to sit on" and I'll be danged if she didn't. (Note to self: buy an big patio umbrella so we all have a nice spot to eat in the backyard. Wait, better yet, note to TubaDad!) IMG_2779ms After naps, I called the pediatrician to see if I could schedule a last-minute appointment for little Ree. I got squeezed in at 4:40, arrived about 5 minutes early at 4:35, was taken immediately in, got a diagnosis and prescription, and we were back in the car at 4:44. I was so stunned I had to dig around in the purse for the camera. Have I mentioned that I LOVE our pediatrician? Ree's fine, by the way, nothing that won't be cleared up in 5-7 days. IMG_2782 My mom had met us at the doctor's (hm, my dad gets to go to the park and my mom gets to go to the pediatrician... perhaps not the most equitable split?), and we had so much time left over that we cruised around downtown, feasted on this incredible salad with skirt steak, grilled peaches, gorgonzola, and balsamic dressing (oh my gosh I love grilled fruit, who knew?), and listened to a little jazz in the park. Ro and Ree were fascinated and we had to physically drag them away while they yelled "Nooooo, I want to hear da moooosic!" Nice... Then went our separate ways. I got the girls in bed on time (yay me!)(TubaDad is away on a business trip), and even had time left over to blog. Alright! PS: Our Sears Portrait Studio giveaway is still going on, entries will be accepted until 8am on Friday.

  1. You may detest those sandals, but I guess you learned your lesson: NEVER underestimate the determination of a 3 year old from getting the fashion shoe of her choice. They WILL find a way.(Heh!) You gotta admit though, just about all of the colors in the sandals coordinate with the leggings! :) Dang! She's good!

  3. That sounds like one very busy day. Thank goodness for BobBob and Wela. Without them I would bet that you would have been digging into the chocolate by the end of the day.

  7. I probably wouldn't have sprung for those sandals either, but they really do pull her outfit together. These girls have a future in fashion.

  12. As the Tongginator will attest, shoes make or break the outfit. And those sandals are the next best thing to pink flip flop princess shoes with bows on them.
