Good girl time

TubaDad's away on another short business trip, so we've been having some girl time. When Ro and Ree were little and TubaDad would travel, I swear I was just hanging on by my fingernails. It was so hard and I would get so bitchy by the end of each business trip. I shudder a little just remembering it (and I'll bet TubaDad does too...) Anyhow, the girls are at such a fun stage right now. They're hilarious, they're learning new things at an incredible rate, they understand and repeat everything (well that one's not always a good thing—yesterday my dad was upstairs installing some new hooks in their closet and they said all the noise from the drill was a "pain in the a$$"—yikes, my bad, I'm sure), they play with each other for hours, and they're up for anything. They're really a pleasure to be around, even if all we're doing is hanging out. Here are a few things we've been doing around the house lately: Their good friends H2 and S2 just sent a huge box chock full of awesome hand-me-downs, and Ro and Ree danced with joy: DSC_4282mLR They immediately picked out a pair of matching "pajammies" and put them on, even though it was only 4 o'clock in the afternoon. Oh the glee. DSC_4295LR They wore those jammies everywhere. Inside, outside, you name it: DSC_4305LR They dreamed up two new slide activities that I really don't approve of. One of them is pictured here, and the other one took place the next day and was so dangerous that I didn't even get a picture of it (if you know me at all, you know the fact that I stopped them rather than running for my camera means the situation was truly dire): DSC_4312LR They also biked for hours. Seriously hours. And the bike of choice today was the old one I used as a kid. It's rusty and battered, and too small for them now, but it has one unbeatable feature: you can fit two kids on it (well at least Ro and Ree can): DSC_4315LR DSC_4325LR And yeah, that's one of their Halloween costumes. It's hard to tell when they're sitting down, but it's a cupcake. We ordered two of them from Pottery Barn Kids, but for some reason they messed up and only shipped one. When I called customer service, the nice lady said they'd ship another one out in seven to 10 days. I sweetly replied (over the incredible din of two girls fighting to the death for the right to wear the lone costume), "Um, is there any way you can expedite that? I have twins, and right now one girl is wearing her cupcake costume and one isn't—you can imagine the disappointment, right?" The other costume was expedited and should be here today. When daddy's gone, we have froufrou high-brow, gourmet dinners (which make the girls squeal with delight, and which they insist on eating in front of the tv, "since dare called tv dinners, mama"): DSC_4330LR And we go for walks wearing our fancy clothes (that means leotards and tutus for the girls, and shoes other than flip flops for me): IMG_3942LR Fun girl time.

Oh so much girly fun! Daddy must be sad that he is missing out.I'm sure the girls will catch him right up and give lots of love to him when he is back.

Love the cupcake costume!!! I know it's not going back now!!

  2. I told you things would get better when they got older. Infancy and toddlerhood have their moments, but on the whole, childhood is really the most fun. It's the only phase I actively miss (as opposed to "feel nostalgic" over).

  9. I really don't know how you manage(d) the business trips. I shudder to think that it might happen to us, and go into cold shakes when I know I'm doing lunchtime on my own.

  17. I used to get cranky when Greg so much as mowed the yard. It does get so much easier, doesn't it? I'm LOVING the cupcakes. I have Ariel and Cinderella. Not terribly original, but it's what they wanted to be. Ariel is much prettier as a cartoon. It doesn't translate well to costume.

Thank God for Hand Me Downs,

    Indiana Lori

P.S. Twice in 2 days I've been asked if my girls always have ants in their pants. Tornadoes, I said, and I thought of Ro and Ree, the twinadoes...then I told those women I never wished for tame child creatures. Take that, nosy women at the Hobby Lobby!

I laughed out loud when I read "when they were little." My youngest daughter is almost 9...thanks for reminding me about when mine were just becoming "big girls!" kara

I can SO identify with Ree and her favorite shoes (that Mama isn't crazy about..). I had a very similar pair. Used to be a place on Highway 9 in Saratoga called "Kinneys on the Highway" when I was a kid. Those shoes just called to me from the window and I wore them EVERYWHERE.
