Countdown, four-year-old style
Well we finally scheduled a return trip to Disneyland (man, it's been a long time), and the girls are beyond excited. They've been saying they want to go back at least once a week for the past year. And they want to go with their buddies H2 and S2, so their wish will now come true.
Only problem is the trip isn't until the end of January—practically a lifetime to a four-year-old. So we made a little paper chain to count down the days. Each ring is filled with fun pictures of past trips they've taken with H2 & S2, and sprinkled throughout is the famous mouse icon. Each morning they get to rip off one link of the chain, and when they're out of links it means it's finally mouse time!!
The paper chain was a fun project to make, and should be a nice visual countdown. Hey at the very least it beats the heck out of answering "How much longer, mama?!!!!" a hundred times a day. Heh.
PS: H2 and S2, keep your eyes on the mailbox, because your very own paper-chain kit full of picture-filled strips is winging its way to your house right this second.

That IS a long time for a 4 year old to wait for such a fun trip! The paper chains turned out soooo cute! What a neat idea.
ReplyDeleteI'm going on a cruise with Stacey and my sis in the middle of January.
It's in 63 days. Not that I'm counting or anything.
I might make a paper chain for myself :)
To be a four year old in YOUR house!
ReplyDeleteThis is very cute - but oh my I'm a bit intimidated by your project :)
ReplyDeleteYou rock! I would've kept quiet and hyped up Christmas instead :)
ReplyDeleteLove the paper chain idea... Such a fun (and visual) way to anticipate a visit to the house of mouse.
I think I'll use that idea for an Advent Chain! I THINK I could get that done before Advent starts!
ReplyDeleteAnd...we LOVE Disneyland too. Here in Japan we have Disney Sea too. Both too wonderful!
That was really creative, and so thoughtful to put one in the mail too!
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun and concrete way for your kiddos to count down!
ReplyDeleteWe are going to Disney the last week of January too. I shouldnt have told my daughter yet lol.. she is already packing her bags!
ReplyDeleteM3, you are so thoughtful to not only make one for your girls, but send one to their friends, too. Chalk up a couple more mom points for yourself!

ReplyDeletePlease share how one goes about creating or printing out something like this. Is this a program?
ReplyDeleteWe do the same thing in our house for holidays, birthdays, our trip to Disney but we use plain old colored construction paper. The pictures are a perfect way to remember.
ReplyDeleteJust a wee bit jealous here! We are so ready to go back to Disneyland...like yesterday! Love the chain idea, you're such a fun mama!!
ReplyDeleteThat is the BEST idea!!! That is why you are the best!!!

Fun link chains! I did link chains for my 2 kids when we went to Disney World this past fall...I just used plain construction paper though and wrote down inside on each one something fun we'd be doing at Disney...eat lunch with a princess, ride dumbo, meet Mickey, etc. They loved opening them each morning, even my 8 year old!
ReplyDeleteYou think of the coolest things ! I love all your ideas, you must be such a fun mom!

ReplyDeleteThat's a great idea! We're going to WDW in April, which seems like a lifetime away to my seven-year-old. We may steal your idea!

ReplyDeleteI'm sure you will have a terrific time. And I wish we could go too. Jammer just loved Disney World.
