Fashion friday (and "the happiest kids in the world")

It's Fashion Friday, time to take a peek at how the kiddos like to dress themselves. Today they were excited to wear their new Justin Roberts "Willy was a whale" tees (they went to his concert over the weekend) and bring his cd to preschool to share with the teachers. After breakfast they tore upstairs and assembled their wild outfits, giggling and laughing the whole time. Cuteness. DSC_8117LRs It's interesting that both girls went for red bottoms, because the t-shirt is orange, and doesn't have any red in it. It works, though. Ree (left) also wanted to play up some blue because the whale is blue, so she grabbed blue sparkle ponytail holders, a blue jacket, and some Hanna Andersson clogs that have blue accents. Ro (right) added a bold red velvety skirt and leggings, along with hot pink jacket and shoes. Dang, I just think they look adorable (I know, I know, could I BE any more biased? Heh heh.) Every time they get to preschool, by the way, they run (full-speed) into the classroom, talking a mile-a-minute and bursting with exciting things that they need to share with their teachers immediately. Yeesh—I try not to let them disrupt class, I swear, but they are hard to contain. TubaDad took them to preschool one day last week and, in the middle of trying to get them to settle down, put coats in cubbies, and quietly join the group, he looked up at one of the teachers and said kind of apologetically "They're the loudest kids in the world, aren't they?" and she laughed and said "Yep, they're the loudest kids in the world, but they're also the happiest kids in the world." And you know what? She's right. Life isn't perfect and we have our share of dramatic four-year-old moments, but Ro and Ree are remarkably happy kids. Maybe it has something to do with having a twin/best friend/playmate always by your side? I don't know, but everything is an adventure to them, everything is an opportunity for fun. When they burst into school today, one teacher grinned and said "They just light up the room, don't they?" and another teacher laughed and said "Woohoo, the party has arrived!" Funny, sweet, exuberant, enthusiastic girls—may they always find huge joy in the little things, and may I always remember that joy is far more important than perfect behavior.

I love to hear how happy your girls are! My daughter is the same, everything is an adventure for her, she's always smiling and laughing, she'll talk to everyone she sees. At the grocery store they say she fills the store with sunshine. My hubby and I always say what a joy it is to have someone so positive in the house. Oh yeah, she's very loud too!

    Enjoy your weekend!

  2. I need to keep these words you've shared in mind.

My girls were like pinball machines at dinner the other night, and I'm certain people were staring. I'm exhausted at times, but I'm not sure I would change them. They may have chronic Ants in the Pants Syndrome, but Lordy, they are happy little squirts! And that's the best of all things.

    Happy Thanksgiving,

    Indiana Lori

Looking at their outfits I would definitely say the party has begun. Please send the brightness to Portland where it is raining and cold and gray.

I suspect that their happiness also stems from having a creative, energetic mom and dad who value and celebrate their presence.

Your blog is wonderful -- I've followed it since a friend made her own journey across the Pacific to adopt a daughter. Thanks for sharing your happiness and good times.

  7. Yep....My two are the same way. The squeals of excitement just make you want to smile even if you don't know what they're excited about. It must be a twin thing:-)

Everytime I tell my girls' daddy I wish they'd tone it down a bit, he says at least they're happy! They could be bumps on a log.

  8. Your post made my tear up... After some unsettling news regarding our son's academic progress, the dr mentioned that he was a happy, independent kid. And I choose to focus on that (plus getting him the help he needs to succeed in school!) I'll take a happy child over a genius any day :)

  10. The Tongginator's best buds, Cinnamon and Spice, are so much like your girls - loud and HAPPY. The Tongginator is loud, but not always happy. Heh.

  13. Are you forgetting another reason they are so happy? Because of how they're raised! One of the (many) reasons I love reading your blog is because I love reading how you treat every day as an adventure with Ro and Ree!

  14. Quiet is greatly over-rated. Or so I tell myself about 100 times a day.

You couldn't have said it better if you tried! Everyone always says our son is the happiest kid they've ever seen. I don't think I've ever seen him unhappy unless he's hungry or tired. He always smiles at everyone he meets and showers his dad and me with kisses dozens of times a day. I hope he stays that way. Ro and Ree are adorable in their outfits, as usual.
