Man, I didn't even party this hard when I was in college
Ro and Ree are party animals I tell you. Crazy girls. Around 3pm yesterday, TubaDad and I decided that since we weren't going anywhere and no one was coming over (in case we were still contagious) we'd have a private little family New Year's party. So, while the girls were napping, TubaDad snuck out to the store and got some party supplies.
I took the girls for a short walk while TubaDad decorated, and the surprise party started with a bubblewrap stomp at the front door and lasted until well after midnight. They didn't miss a beat and didn't ask a single question, just said "Ooooo, we're having a party!" and started jumping.
Ro is wearing her pink party dress and Ree is wearing kitty cat pajamas, and then Ro changed into pink stripey jammies with a pink nightgown on top and Ree changed into blue stripey jammies. No, I don't really know why they picked any of the outfits, I figured they had their reasons and the outfits were pretty appropriate New Year's attire.
The girls thought the decorations were crazy fun, and wasted no time donning hats, blowing noisemakers, and noshing on their special-request dinner of chicken McNuggets and sparkling cider. (I just couldn't get psyched for a New Year's McD's dinner, so I had a lovely salad.) The top left picture shows what they did to our house during the party. It was trashed.
Silly string. Need I say more?
We went through 72 poppers, 2 cans of silly string, and 50 glow sticks. It's a damn good thing TubaDad didn't buy more... Xena cat plopped herself right in the middle of the party, but staunchly refused to pose for a confetti-on-the-head picture, silly feline.
The glowsticks came out near the end of the party (well at least the end for me). The girls made a big glowing track, then brought their bikes inside and rode around on it. Then they took the sticks upstairs and kept delaying bedtime by saying they had made special glowing jewelry and presents for us. I finally said "goodnite all" and was the first one to hit the pillow. TubaDad says the little party animals were up past midnight, despite his best intentions.
The big news of the new year is that even after all that partying, little Ree woke up dry this morning!! She slammed the bedroom door open at the crack of dawn (ok, maybe it was eight-something) and screamed "Mama, my puII-up is dry!!!!!!!" This was her fifth night of dry nighttime pullups, so now she is puII-up free and so proud. So 2010 will be (among other things) the year we didn't buy a single puII-up.
Alrighty, I am getting to bed super insanely early tonight, because I was already tired *before* the holidays and now am about to fall over. (Side note: It would be amusing to find out how many times I've written the word "tired" on the blog since we met the girls in Oct of 2006. I bet it's a lot. Heh.)
Happy New Year to all!

ReplyDeleteSounds like you had a fun night!! I was yawning by 10pm. At 12:05 we were packed up and heading home!
ReplyDeleteCongrats to Ree!!!
The picture of Ro looking at you holding your hands and you gazing at her is probably one of the most endearing pictures of a mother and daughter I have seen in some time. The absolute delight on her face is priceless.
ReplyDeleteI can't believe we forgot the silly string!! We also forgot to drink the three bottles of sparkling cider in the fridge. Darn!
ReplyDeleteGlad you guys had a good time. Those girls know how to party!
You are truly the party people. Wow! I really have written down your ideas. Bubble wrap, light sticks etc...you guys are party animals. We are boring. I did buy blow horns. But that was it. Happy new year!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteI'm playing catch-up on my blog reading and good to see that you've had such a fun month, except of course for that little stomach bug thing. Wishing you all a wonderful, healthy and fun-filled 2010.
ReplyDeleteThis just put a smile on my face. I love that you did this with the girls! What a great party. I can't believe they made it past midnight. They are party animals.
ReplyDelete:-)
That is such a terrific way to bring in the New Year with the kids! It is certainly memorable! Things like this inspire me to move away from within the box and think outside the box...sometimes the mess is worth the memory!
ReplyDeleteOh, but they're so stinking sweet, how could you NOT party all night long with them.
ReplyDeleteYour blog keeps getting better and better! Your older articles are not as good as newer ones you have a lot more creativity and originality now keep it up!
ReplyDeleteGreat party! Happy New Year!
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year! I haven't been in blog land lately and, boy, was I amazed at how big the girls have gotten when I got your Christmas card! Have a wonderful 2010, my friend!
ReplyDeleteI'm jealous of your cute little party!!! We were on that looong flight back from China and totally missed New Years. Wish we could have had a little family party. :) Happy New Year!
ReplyDeleteGreat idea on using the glowsticks for the party. I might just have to use that with my own kids next year!
