Fashion friday (I'm kinda liking this whole kids-as-photographers thing)

It's fashion friday, time to look back at the fashions the kids assembled this week. Continuing with our new strategy, Ro and Ree were in charge of taking their own fashion photographs this week using a remote and tripod. I think we're all getting a kick out of it. In this first pic, the outfits are actually pretty normal, and maybe even—gasp—repeats. These outfits wouldn't have even made the blog cut, except that I thought the picture was so interesting. Ree (right) was in charge of this pic and is the one holding the remote. She wanted to take her pic outside, but we were in the middle of another torrential downpour, so the front porch was as outside as we could get and she told me to place the tripod facing the stucco wall. She's showing off her Peter Rabbit finger puppet. Ro (left) is holding the bronze dog statue that both girls are suddenly enamored of this week and is cheesily pretending to ring the doorbell. Due to the aforementioned damned rain, both girls are wearing ski jackets, and the funny thing is that they're also wearing the new totally-unnecessary-in-California earmuffs that they simply HAD to buy from the 10-for-$10 section at Claire's (their fave store du jour). DSC_2235LRPS2 Oh, and remember the facial differences that I talked about in a previous post? Well you can see kinda see them in this pic too if you really stare at it. See, Ro's nose is a little more turned up (check the nostrils), and Ree's eyebrows have a little more of a pointier arch. In this second photo, Ro (right) held the remote and told me to point the tripod at the little party they were having in the nook under our kitchen island. They had moved the red bench out of the way, then dragged their pink table set in. They were having salami, which they decided to hold in their mouths for the picture. (No idea why.) And these outfits just tickled me. Ree is wearing a long stripey Gymboree dress, pink printed Pumpkin Patch skirt, pink velour leggings, and her Target Hello Kitty rainboots. (Still freakin' raining!) Ro has on her Hanna Andersson "crazy pants" and a striped Hanna Andersson tank dress that I ran across at Costco last week. Who knew they had Hanna at Costco?!! I wouldn't have thought to put together either of these outfits, but clearly I don't know anything about fashion, because I was wearing a pair of boring black sweats and a plain white turtleneck, while the girls were wearing these divine little combos. DSC_2250LRPS2 Well that's the fashion wrap-up for the week. We're headed down to Avila Beach to hang out with TubaDad while he plays a concert, so I wrote this a day early and queued it up to automatically publish. I guess if you're seeing it on Friday morning then it worked. Y'all have a great weekend! DSC_1884LRPS #1: Did anyone else walk into a school office this week, holding a folder bulging with all of your official paperwork, to sign your tiny precious babies up for fall kindergarten? Gah! I'd write something fun and pithy about it, but I'm kind of freaking out. PS #2: I just figured out that Salsa in China is creeping up on its 5th anniversary at the same time that we're nearing 5 million views (we're at 4,993,176 and expect to see 5 million in the next couple of days). I would kill to get a picture of the statcounter at the bottom of the screen showing 5 million. (My counter is at the very bottom of the page under the copyright, and it loads up after all the words and graphics are finally done loading for some reason. So sometimes it takes a few seconds. It's that 8-digit string of numbers starting with a zero.) If you happen to be looking at the page when the counter flips over, pleasepleaseplease capture it somehow someway (take a picture with your camera, get a screenshot, or grab a video) and email it to me. Thank you!!! I'll be doing a fun little post for the anniversary and would love to include it. Also, if you have any creative ideas for how we could mark/commemorate the 5 years here at Salsa in China, I would love to hear them.

  4. Kindergarten?!? :-) We have another year to wait. The cut-off there must be different than it is here. Our little dragonflies are growing up too fast.

  5. Wow.....5 years and 5 million. Kinda awesome!!!

Love their outfits and their wild imaginations. And future photographers....kinda cool too.

I'm with you on the Kindergarten sign-up. I was in shock for a few weeks with Dahlia. Now she just turned 7 and I want to turn back the clock. Even she does. This morning she woke up and said "Mommy, can I stay 6?". I said "sure baby, forever!".
    :)

  6. Where's your counter? I don't want to be the one who missed seeing the numbers change.

  7. Hi Jo, the counter is at the very bottom of the page, I think it's that last thing to load for some reason, so if you refresh the page and then wait it should show up.

  8. 5 Million! WOW!

Just so you know the counter is at the very bottom under the copyright. It is just a string of numbers. I spent forever trying to find it! Maybe I am the only one "computer challenged" since I also have no idea how to do a screen shot. If it's me, I'll just take a picture of it!!

Yep - we are in So Cal and we signed Sydney up for Kindergarten this week too. AND - they are starting a new full day program in the fall for K and so the new school hours will be 8:30am-2:30pm. AACK! I'm not entirely sure what I'm going to do with myself...

  14. Y'all's cutoff date must be different than ours too! Maggie is older than Ro and Ree and she has another year at daycare! Lucky y'all.

  15. I enrolled Bug in kindergarten a few weeks ago- not so much paperwork for me, though I did deal with the fact that there was no check box for my status as his mother- the choices were birth mother, legal gaurdian, step mother or deceased. I should have checked birth motehr since I have a borth certificate listing me as the mother- but I had to ask. the secretarty told me I need to bring in all the adoption paperowrk before he could be enrolled. Thank goodness the principal heard the conversation and stated the BC was sufficient since it lists me.

I learned my lesson, I will be the birth mother from now on (no offense meant to Birth mothers) instead of handing out our story.

I love the outfits. Love to you,
    Deb

  19. I signed up Shayna for kindgarten and today they told me the start date. I got teary eyed. The time has gone by so fast and its hard when you alreay loose a year with them. Our cut off here is Oct 1st so a part of me wishes her bday was that day so she would have another year until kindergarten. Oh well. Good luck to us in the fall.

  20. Oh yes, we too are starting kindergarten this fall (well, when I found out, it actually starts the end of August not September like I thought!)

No idea where the time went...this month we celebrate 4 yrs as a family *le sigh*
