Tahoe road trip (guest post from BobBob and Wela, now that they’ve rested up)

Wow, we had the twins to ourselves for two full days on a road trip to Tahoe!

Ro and Ree love the family A-frame cabin in the woods. Looks just like a new playhouse to them, especially with the loft up above and the cupboard under the stairs. According to the girls the daddy bear, BobBob, hides in the cave under the stairs with the little bear cubs, Ro and Ree, while the mama bear, Wela, hunts for food. Yeah, they’ve got our real jobs pegged. Their imagination is on overdrive all the time. They were perfectly happy inventing stories and situations all day long.

The dinner of choice was Bob Dog Pizza. Then we had to make snow ice cream, which they loved -- fresh “white” snow, vanilla, and lots of sugar with a splash of milk. Delicious.DSC04506-2LR

The girls chose the twin beds in the loft to sleep next to each other. We almost fell asleep before they did.

Friday, 7:00 AM, and they were ready to go out and play in the snow. It was a touch cold outside so luckily we convinced them to play board games for a couple hours first. Vintage cabin games from the days of their mama and Uncle Bobby, like Hi Ho Cherry O, Casper the Friendly Ghost, and War with a deck of cards. Finally, they got to go out and sled on the hill across the street, wow they flew down the hill and we just kept them from hitting trees and crashing. “Don’t let them get hurt, don’t let them get hurt,” (that’s the grandparents’ mantra, you know).DSC04525-2LRDSC04540-2LR

BobBob said “Let’s build an igloo!” so it was off to get shovels. This took a lot of time. First, apparently, we had to make steps in the snow to climb up the roof. DSC04533-2LRDSC04560-2LR

The igloo turned out to be the activity of choice, even better than sledding. There is just something fascinating about stacking up those blocks of snow and ice. Ree had to have windows (which she got), then Ro really wanted an upstairs built on the igloo, but for some reason BobBob was plumb wore out. DSC04566-2LR

Wela asked, “Girls do you want a snack of crackers and cheese?” “Maybe,” was the answer. “How about hot chocolate?” “OH YES!” The tray was delivered to their new igloo. DSC04572-2LRDSC04554-2LR-2

This was a wonderful trip with our two precious princesses. We were a bit tired** but would do it again anytime.

(**Note from M3: Gee, do you think this is a bit of an understatement? Hee! BobBob and Wela, thanks for watching the girls, and taking pictures, and doing a post, the girls sure did have fun with you.)

  1. Love the "igloo-side" service! Reminds me of the "If you give a mouse a cookie" books. Or more fitting "If you take the twins to the cabin..."

  8. I'm officially impressed. How are you guys still so young with all that energy???? Please tell us your secret because I'm tired just reading the post of all that you did. Seriously though, the girls will remember those times with you fondly for many, many years to come!
