Sleeping Queens

No, I’m not talking about Ree and Ro. They’re not sleeping (yet) and if anyone’s the queen around here it’s me. I’m talking about this new card game the girls are mad for called Sleeping Queens. Ma and Pa gave it to them for their birthdays, and we’ve played it almost every night since.DSC_8975LRDSC_8974LR

It’s a cute game, dreamed up by a six-year-old girl, which tickles my fancy. The object of the game is to awaken the sleeping queens, and you draw a bunch of power cards along the way (kings, knights, dragons, potions, and wands) to help your cause. You can also play your number cards by making equations (like the 7+1=8 below), and that’s a feature that I LOVE. The girls are getting so adept at glancing at their hands and knocking out simple addition or subtraction equations. It’s fun.

Anyhow, eight thumbs up on this game from our little family.

...never fails to scare the crap out of me when I round a corner and see it. It’s like living with a horde of really big colorful spiders.

This would be a great gift/stocking stuffer. What is the age for the card game?

Acrobatics on the door frame! Now, that's a new one.

  2. Hi, the box says "Ages 8 and up, 2-5 players." But our first graders (6 year olds) are loving it and regularly beat me.

  3. Oh, and I should mention that we played with all cards face up for the first two days so we could all help each other. Now it's power cards face down and each woman for herself. ;-)

  4. Sounds fun! Oh and the door frame thing- that old news in our house. Wait til they figure out how to jump down an entire flight of stairs! That will shock you :)

  5. Ah copperdog, how I wish I knew nothing of this stair jumping you speak of... Their feet never touch ground. They leap down the first flight by pushing off the handrail (kind of like those pole vaulters who get upward lift), then swing around the corner and hook an arm over the next handrail and slide down. Yeah...

What are all the rainbows on the side of your fridge for?

  7. LOL! That pic of Ro in the doorframe was totally me as a kid! I'm just waiting for the day when my little climber will discover stuff like this. For now she makes mommy cringe when she leaps down the final 4 steps!

What a great game for the girls! How neat to see their math skills leaping ahead while having fun!

  8. We always love new games around here, will have to look for it.
My niece, who is adopted from China, used to scare her folks too, doing the climb between walls and doorways.
    Gymnastics anyone?

  9. Yikes!! I love the door frame thing...I have a picture of my Grandson doing the same thing at a family reunion...

  10. HOW DID SHE GET UP THERE?!?! That took a couple days off my life and I don't even know you in the real world!!! YIKES!

  11. Anon - the rainbows are for good behavior at school. Their teacher awards a color for each good act and then when a student has assembled a full rainbow she gets to take it home. So far Ro and Ree have the same amount of rainbows (I'm not sure they noticed, but I keep an amused eye on it).

Shannon - they do kind of a spider walk up there, pushing out against the door frame and crawling up one arm and one leg at a time while pushing for leverage. I remember my brother doing it when I was little. Bet he can still do it!

I am so glad you all like the game. It had good reviews for it, and I saw in several reviews that children younger than the stated age enjoy it also.

We try to get games that are fun for the adults as well as the children.

  14. Anon: You mean that handle that you can see in the spider pic? It's our swivel sweeper (Ontel). Use the heck out of that thing every single day.

My DD does the climbing thing too, but instead of using both sides of the frame, she climbs one side of the doorframe or room divider, so hands and feet all on one edge of the doorframe and climbs right up to the ceiling height. Scares the daylights out of me too.

  18. Colorful horde of spiders...hee hee hee...good one!

Thanks for the hug! I needed that, and I couldn't agree with your more about our male in-house problem solvers!

  19. Too bad Sunshine is too little for that game. She is really starting to get into the princesses. I love your kind of spiders. They are fun.
