Ree (left) and Ro are absolutely enamored of the new Christmas movie "An Elf's Story."
Here they are watching it for the (cough cough) fourth or fifth time and holding up their own beloved elf (renamed Chippey in honor of the movie) so he gets to experience the joy too:
If your kids haven’t seen An Elf’s Story yet, CBS will show it again on the 9th, so check your listings and set your DVR. Also, if you have a hard time coming up with your elf’s next creative hiding place like me, you can find some fun ideas of what to do with your elf at 15 Creative Ideas to Hide Your Elf on the Shelf (I like the Chef Elf idea and the Just Back from the North Pole one), and I like the Kleenex Box idea at Elf on the Shelf Ideas {elf on}, and you can browse fun ideas at the Flickr group called Elf On A Shelf – I love the wintery elf and cool whip in the fridge and the flour snow angel oodles.
PS: Lisa’s comment reminded me to mention that with the Elf on the Shelf thing (as with almost everything in life) we don’t follow the official rules. Nope. Never did. We let the girls touch Chippey as much as they want (they carry him everywhere and love on that little dude), and then they just have to make sure he’s on the stairs before bedtime. The story is so that he never gets trapped or confused and can always make his way to Santa’s every night. But that’s a big load of bull. The real reason is because if I don’t literally trip on that damn elf on my way to bed, there is NO chance I’ll remember to find that thing and then hide him in a way-cool someplace. Oh, and we also don’t use Chippey as any kind of behavior spy like they mention in the book. He’s just a fun, happy dude who helps to spread the magic and fun of Christmas and has a direct line to Santa’s ear each night if you think of something else to add to your Christmas list. And he hides every morning in places that make the girls scream with laughter.
Thank you!!!! I PVR'd the wrong channel that night! Oh well, Alphie is making his debut tonight ....
ReplyDeleteHannah saw it for the first time tonight too and then immediately asked to watch it again...so we did!
ReplyDeleteThe fun thing is that she opened her Elf tonight and named him Chippey as well. I have a feeling a lot of elves will be named Chippey!
Cute story! I wonder where Chippey will be tomorrow morning?
Maisie has watched it dozens of times already too. She would be quite distressed though to see the girls touching their elf...his magic is gone. Mortimer made his appearance the morning after Thanksgiving and Maisie can't wait to get up each morning to find him.
ReplyDeleteOh funny, Lisa, we don't have any rules with Chippey, other than that the girls have to put him on the stairs each evening. We tell them it's so he never gets confused or trapped on his way to see Santa each evening, but really it's because if I don't literally trip on the dang elf on the way to bed I completely forget about him.
ReplyDeleteOur elf, Nimbly, hid this morning for the first time. No matter how many times I tell L she can touch him, she won't go near him! I love the rules your family has for your elf!
ReplyDeletemy girls are hooked on that movie...we have the dvd as of two days ago and its on a constant loop.
ReplyDeletethere's also lots of fun elf ideas on pinterest!!! there was one where he (aka the mom) painted the kids' noses red while they slept to look like rudolph and he sat on the kitchen counter th e next morning with a note saying to go check the mirror!
ReplyDeletePretty soon you won't be able to post this "top secret info" on the blog now that the girls are reading!!! I have to stop k from reading over my shoulder when I'm on Facebook and such now!
ReplyDeletemy dd loves the elf also!!! we don't have any rules for him either, he's just for fun. But SHE definitely has rule "no touching mama, he'll lose his magic!!!" she just enjoys searching for finding him each morning. Oh, and ours is named "Boy" because that's what she named him last year. I told her she could change his name but she hasn't.
ReplyDeletesuper cute!
The stairs idea is a great one, but my daughter (age 8) is a serious rule follower and will not, can not and won't even put one little finger on Johnny Jingles for fear of him not being able to fly. I turned 50 this year and am too damn old to remember to hide that guy every night. The other night airline pilot hubby was coming in late. I texted him to please relocate Johnny Jingles when he got in. He's even older than me so Johnny was in the same place the next morning. He's a pretty quick thinker though and told Abby that when he was walking in the house he heard "fluttering". He "thinks" Johnny was just getting ready to fly, but got scared when someone walked in so he just stayed where he was. I wonder how much longer I have to keep this up?
ReplyDeleteaww! super cute post:)) First time to visit here, hope you could drop by mine sometime:))
ReplyDeleteI think this idea is funny. http://d30opm7hsgivgh.cloudfront.net/upload/325447466_w35r0EKJ_b.jpg
ReplyDeleteOr how about roasting a marshmallow over a candle (unlit of course). Or playing a card game with a doll. Or turn all the chairs to the breakfast table backwards and have him sitting in it.
