Quick getaway

At the start of the weekend, TubaDad informed me that he was taking Monday off so we’d all have a long weekend together. I was momentarily stunned by this good news, then immediately proposed we use up an old giftcard for a hotel in Monterey and get the heck out of dodge. A simple internet booking later, we were all set. And it was lovely. And free.

We had dinner out at a fancy restaurant, where the girls were delighted to suck down copious quantities of Pellegrino and eat their weight in bread. And we strolled around the downtown and found a weird new place called the Mirror Maze. You put on these funky psychedelic rainbow glasses then  grope your way through a strobe-lit maze with faux disappearing walls. At least that’s what it looked like from my comfy vantage point in the lobby. There was no way I was venturing into that seizure-inducing place. TubaDad went through it with the happy girls about 4 or 5 times then looked a little greenish and said he was done.SAMSUNG

The weather was beautiful. Cold but clear, and the little babes delighted in climbing on as many rocks as they could find and moving large amounts of sand from one place to another.

I was capturing a peaceful father-daughter moment when a rogue wave reached up and grabbed them. Luckily there was a nearby TubaDad to climb. And also luckily the camera kept snapping while I gasped and failed to offer any valid assistance, so I got this series of shots that cracks me up! Anyhow, Ro and Ree stayed nice and dry. Too bad *someone else’s* shoes got a little wet in the process.

This is how Ro finishes her frisbee throws every time, by the way. She crouches down, flings her arms out, and generally looks like she’s surfing. The girl’s got flair. This is the exact spot where TubaDad and I got married back in 2003. Kinda fun.

Purdy day. All that blueblueblue was just incredible, dontcha think?

I love how they link arms. Does that occur serendipitously?

  2. Oh, funny, I didn't know they had done it and had to go back and look at the photos. So I guess the answer is yes. :-)

I am very excited to be trying your idea of the dragon cake on Monday with my class. Instead of the bundt cake, I am going to have each student do a cupcake. I hope it looks as nice as yours did.

  7. The place looks gorgeous. I don't know why, but I had it in my head that ya'll got married in Hawaii. Still...a free vacation is always a good thing, regardless of where it is!!

  8. Shannon we did meet in Hawaii, I'll bet that's why you think that. Then got married barefoot (well I was barefoot, TubaDad wore shoes) on the beach at Asilomar. We like beaches. :-)

  11. What a beautiful day and great way to spend a weekend! LOL...based on what you're wearing M3 I'm guessing it might have dipped into the 60's? Just kidding...it's been chilly in your area! The 'marshmallow coats' are adorable!

Beautiful, beautiful pics! What a wonderful treat to have this family weekend together!

We're trying the dragon cake this weekend too!! Well....I bought the ingredients and Ange is making it. Does that count? ;o) We couldn't find single colour m&m's her so are using gummy hearts to look like scales. I'll take pics of Ange's awesome cake for you!

    Happy New Year friend! xoxo

  19. Just wanted you to know (because she'll never comment), I finally got my tech-challenged best friend to visit your blog. She's the one with the slightly-older-than-your-girls twins I've often said are so! much! like your girls. She's now hooked on your blog. Completely. And yes, she agrees that your girls and hers have a ton in common.
