We go home tomorrow, so we got in as much water time as possible today.
Don’t they look like two little old ladies walking along arm in arm dishing out non-stop commentary on their surroundings? I have no doubt that this is exactly how they’ll look when they’re 80.
Here we have TubaDad and his girls. I think the smirk on Ree’s face (left) and the stare-down on Ro’s are pretty good indicators of the trouble these two will give their daddy when they’re teenagers…
Ree and Ro wear more layers than anyone I know, even in Hawaii. But they do sort of make it look islandy.
After playing in the water for most of the day, and trying yet another fish sandwich (this one was from Merriman’s and was my absolute fave on Kauai, and trust me I tried them all), we chilled out for a couple of hours. Some of us napped, some read, and some watched movies. It was slow and lovely.
Feeling all refreshed, we had a little nighttime beach action.
And ate a fab dinner. Mine had forbidden black rice, which was to die for -- I am totally going to try making it when we get home. Has anyone ever made it before or seen it in stores?
Now they are all (once again) snoring but me, so I’d better catch up. Night!
Well, we are back home in the Bay Area after an uneventful flight. Sure wish we had that one extra day that you got to enjoy...it looks like it was well spent!
ReplyDeleteIt was wonderful meeting you today--the girls are just as beautiful in person as they appear on a computer screen! I'll try to get my technology-adverse friend who adopted her lovely daughter from China reading your blog. It would be fantastic if Ro and Ree could meet little Lauren someday!
I know I've purchased Forbidden Rice at our local Draegers supermarket, and I believe I've found it at Whole Foods as well. It's yummy, isn't it? I just make it in our rice cooker and it comes out perfect.
Forbidden Rice? I've got to try this. A girlfriend of mine is trying to do birthday treats and lost her nerve. I showed her a picture of your dragon cake, and she decided she could be brave enough for one cake, if you could attempt that dragon.
DeleteGlad you guys had a great trip! Now I'm craving fish...
Kauai E: It was so great to meet you! I wish we all had a few more days on the island. Hard to believe we're back home already.
DeleteI'll look at Whole Foods for that rice. Can't wait to find it. And good to know that the rice cooker works (that's just my speed).
Hope to see you guys again!
Lori, I'll let you know how the rice goes here. And I want to find a neat recipe for it too, something like the one they made at Tidepool's. I am craving it!
DeleteLove the cake story -- tell your girlfriend that M&Ms cover up ANYTHING. :-)
Don't you just hate when school gets in the way of fun!
ReplyDeleteYes yes yes!!! And man is that alarm going to hurt tomorrow morning...
DeleteAww, 3 beautiful ladies!! Tuba Dad is very lucky! M3 you look relaxed and refreshed!!! Glad you had a wonderful trip and wishing you a safe trip back home! HUGS!!
ReplyDeleteThanks sweetie!!! We brought you guys back a little Kauai love and will deliver it this week.
DeleteI live on Oahu but I absolutely LOVe Kauai!!
ReplyDeleteOoo, Oahu is on our list to see next.
DeleteWhat an amazing and FUN trip! SO wishing I was there!
ReplyDeleteLisa, we would have had SO MUCH FUN with you guys there!!
DeleteYou guys sure know how to party! Glad you had a good time.
ReplyDeleteJamie
Thanks Jamie, it was a good, good time. And now I'm home sitting on my couch wondering how it all went by so fast. Man!
DeleteGlad you had such a great trip! I have to reiterate what Kristina said and comment on how rested and relaxed you look!! Such a treat to have 7 whole days together without the normal busyness of home.
ReplyDeleteI've never tried a fish taco or sandwich but your talk of how great that are is enticing to me.
Cannot believe how big your sweeties are getting.
SO glad you had this time together!! Aloha!
Never tried a fish sandwich??? Sweetpea, how on earth have you lived without ever trying oh-so-delicious fish sandwiches? Oh wait, now I'm remembering that I also talked you into your first-ever pair of flip flops. Stick with me, babe!
DeleteUm, maybe you will be lucky, but it seems to me those types of smirks and stares are generally directed at the mommies of teenage girls, not the daddies...
ReplyDeleteSamantha, hate to admit this but when I read your comment I was filled with dread and my first thought was "OMG, she's right!!" Yeesh.
DeleteI love the picture of you and the girls in the hammock.
ReplyDeleteI hate to admit this, but I have never had a fish sandwich in my life. I know shocking.
