Haven’t done a Fashion Friday in a while

But today’s bright outfits were just begging to be photographed. There are many mornings when I catch a glimpse of the girls brushing their teeth and start to say they might want fewer layers or less colors or whatever. I usually get as far as their names and then stop myself. Because, seriously, what do I know? I wear boring plain jeans and t-shirts every single day, while the girls’ outfits are fun, feisty, cute, and SO them. Today was one of those mornings. And (as usual) I was glad I didn’t say anything.

Have fun at school today you vibrant little girls. You’ve certainly got a style all your own.

  2. So funny, I was just going through this today. I have often wanted to "fix" their outfits because I KNOW what the day will hold (temp changes, different activities..)but then realized they get so much pleasure out of dressing themselves and if asked by their friends if they did that they proudly say yes, I did. Thanks for the reminder that we REALLY don't know what looks good in their eyes. LOVE LOVE that we have such stylish children...I am going to start documenting their lovely choices.

A style all their own and the bravery to walk in it. At this age they get that bravery from their parents, you know. They don't 'own' it for many years.

    Just sayin….A1

No longer will I look at anyone on the street and wonder how on earth the person came up with or decided to wear every article of clothing the person owns on that particular day. Ro and Ree have a sense of style and I will believe that clothing matches a personality. I am sure that people wonder what I was thinking when I chose my clothes for the day. Ro and Ree have opened up all kinds of possiblities for all of us.

I love their sense of style but I'm curious...do they ever get made fun of for their outfits in school? Kids (young kids even!) can be so mean- especially girls!

    1. Nope, never a word. Maybe everyone just expects it now since they've dressed on the wild side since preschool?

The question posed by anon concerned me given the age of Ro and Ree. I have a doctoral student studying bullying and I hate to think that it could start this young. Ro and Ree seem very secure in who they are so it is hard for me to imagine they could get bullied over their choice of fashion.

  6. It's perfect. Mama lets them dress as they see fit. They are always simply adorable, sometimes outrageously cute and sometimes just plain funny. You are engendering confidence in them and they will have ingrained in their psyches that they can be the individuals they are with no stifling of their artistic spirits.

  7. I love to see their fun, exciting outfits! It's also neat to see how they're still choosing to dress similar even though they have a closet full of options available to each of them.

Watch out world - Ro and Ree are on their way! <3

to Anonymous re: doctoral student studying bullying: please, please don't use the word bullying so freely. This is new "buzzword" just as racist is. The other anon asked if they were "made fun of" which I AM SURE THEY ARE NOT but don't use the word bully so freely. What a mess our world is and our children are being raised to think the minute anything is askew it's bullying or racist... sad

Please reread comments made by anon: "do they ever get made fun of for their outfits in school? Kids (young kids even!) can be so mean- especially girls!" Sorry, but that is bullying. I know the research inside and out.
