Happy birthday Ro and Ree! We started the celebrations a night early and, as promised, stopped by the Trek bike store to pick up their brand-spanking new birthday bikes. The girls were thrilled.
They had test driven (test ridden?) a bunch of bikes about a month ago and firmly settled on their faves.
A few quick daddy adjustments:
And they were off (bathed in pink light by a beautiful sunset):
It got dark fast, so they could only ride for a bit that first night, but they sure enjoyed their maiden voyages around the yard.
Their choices of bikes amused me, as usual. Ree picked a sassy, sporty pink mountain bike with shocks and gears. She’s pretty dang proud of that bike:
Ro picked a sweet, cutie-cute little cruiser with basket and bows. When we asked her to test drive the mountain-bike style in the store, just in case, she gamely did it then hopped off and said “Ugh, I hate every single thing about that bike and love every single thing about mine.” Well ok then.
Yep, they’ll enjoy those bikes for many years to come. Later, after the happy cyclists had gone to sleep, TubaDad and I made a long trail of their stuffed animals, starting in their hallway and winding all the way to our bedroom where it ended with a pile of presents in Rapunzel’s arms. We figured it would make them laugh when they woke up. And it did.
The happy birthday tuba serenade, breakfast muffins, and presents in the big bed made them giggle too.
Happy 7th bday girls. We love you.
Fabulous. I love hearing the differences in the two adorable 7-year olds.
ReplyDeleteDid you ever make the chocolate cupcakes with caramel?
I didn't do a second attempt, but will soon!
DeleteWill they be allowed to ride their bikes to school?
ReplyDeleteMaybe next year when they've mastered the fine arts of stopping and riding around (not through) other walkers/riders.
DeleteHow cute! Love the bikes...and I'm sure they'll get a ton of use. Also love the stuffed animal trail. Forgot to mention to you that I bought the little bow and arrow set that your girls have for my Sophie's 6th birthday a few weeks ago and she loves it. Her big sister, 13, took archery lessons this summer (thanks, Hunger Games), and then Sophie saw Brave and had to learn too. The plastic set does great for now...but maybe she'll take "real" lessons next summer. We're heading to Disney World in a few days and Sophie can't wait to meet Merida! :)
ReplyDeleteTell Merida we said "hi!" and have a blast!!
DeleteHappy Birthday! Weren't you both just turning 2, like...yesterday? Thank you for sharing your journey with us. It's been a blast watching you grow up. And I especially love your bikes (almost as much as that cool trail of stuffed animals, which is an idea I must borrow)!

The stuffed animal trail was my burst of creativity at 10pm on birthday eve -- TubaDad (as tired as I) was going to head out to the store to get some balloons when the idea hit me!
DeleteOh goodness, they look SO happy! Great job, mama... you made their day super special :)
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday Girls!!! Cute post. Wowza - didn't realize how big your yard is that they can ride on that path - that's amazing!!
ReplyDeleteYeah it makes a pretty good racetrack! :-)
DeleteWow the bike riding photos in the yard are purdy! Especially the sunset one. Can't wait to pedal around with them!
ReplyDeleteOh and who wouldn't like a tuba b-day serenade :)
-Uncle Bobby
Happy sweet birthday.. love the pics and the bikes what fun..

Happy 7th birthday girls.....love those cool bikes! It does just seem like you were two!
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday girls! Love both of your bikes. :)
ReplyDeleteBelated Happy Birthdays.
ReplyDeleteTHESE are the kinds of things that are going to stick out in their childhood memories. I can just imagine when they're adults reminiscing about the fun stuff their parents did for their birthdays. You guys are such a fun family and so focused on making sure they grow up happy :)
ReplyDeleteI have been reading since before the girls came home (or were even born!) and I truly can NOT believe they are SEVEN! Where does the time go?!
What great bikes! Love how they each knew exactly what they wanted and chose such different bikes! What size are the bikes? Trying to figure out what size to buy for Hannah's b'day. The challenge of having a February b'day in Canada is that Mommy needs to buy the bike now. Oy!
ReplyDeleteLove the stuffed animals leading to gifts, muffins and lots of birthday fun with Mommy and Daddy!!
Ugg, the sheer adorable ness of seeing tuba dad playing Happy Birthday for them made my eyes all watery! What an awesome birthday for your big girls!
