A good week of summer laziness

The first week of summer has been pretty darn nice, in a perfectly mellow sort of a way.

Saturday: TubaDad and I had a Real Adult Dinner out with good friends C & K (SO FUN, why don’t we do adult dinners more often?!!). Ro and Ree had a ball at home with the twin teenagers who are their babysitters (we believe in man-on-man defense).

allan (118)[2]-2LRSunday: Planted our lawn chairs on a street corner near our house and watched my dad zoom by in his antique car on the way to win first place in the Speedster Run. Congrats dad!!

Monday: Gave the dog a bath and were thrilled with how our new bathing equipment (suction-cup collar tethers and a superduper long shower hose) makes life easier.DSC_9332LR

Watched The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe over pizza dinner.

Big news: we moved Ro’s bed back into the pink room tonight. The girls have actually been quietly going to sleep in the same room for three or four days without partying until 2am every night. !!! This hasn’t worked since the cribs were removed after the earthquake of ‘07.

Tuesday: Sleepy morning reading in bed for all of us girls. Hit the library, played at the library park, cleaned out playroom (OMWord, we have two vanloads worth of stuff to donate), dinner movie Rise of the Guardians, long nighttime walk with a gorgeous sunset that Ree begged me to take a picture of.

Wednesday: More lazing around reading – hours of it to be honest – Ro finished Wings of Fire #1 (she really liked it and laughed out loud quite a few times while reading it) and Ree started on The Thirteenth Princess. These are the first “long” books they’ve both tackled. Nice to have a book take them more than twenty minutes. Played a good long while at a dog-friendly park, then watched Oz the Great and Powerful. This is shaping up to be the summer of dinnertime movies.

Thursday: Breakfast in bed, water balloon fight, water play, and wet chalk sidewalk painting. In the 3rd photo below, you can see that someone kept running into the street and suffered the indignity of being put back in the house. In the 4th photo, the last thing I yelled before getting hit in the face with water was "You wouldn't dare shoot that at me when I'm holding a camera!"

Friday: The girls woke up at 8:20 this morn (sliding into our typical summer schedule -- stay up latelatelate then sleep in until 9). TubaDad was long gone by the time they woke up. Poor guy has been putting in crazy hours at work this week, Ro and Ree haven’t seen him since Monday.

IMG_3191LRTonight was dinner at yet another restaurant (the girls have staunchly refused to go grocery shopping with me this week so we have eaten every single dinner out – best week ever!) and an outdoor movie with a bunch of friends.

I thought when you remodeled some rooms in your new house that the girls were sharing a bedroom?

What are suction cup collar tethers?

    1. That was the plan, but they just couldn't manage to do it. We finally gave up and made the playroom into Ro's room.

Little tethers that hook onto his leash and suction cup onto the tub so he doesn't run all over the place.

    2. Here are the tethers if anyone needs them, they worked perfectly:

Gail (Sonoma) who finally figured out how to post a comment after reading your blog for along time.
