How do you prefer to read?

I generally get horizontal on the couch with a pillow, some ice tea or diet root beer, and the Kindle. One sister, Ro, likes to read like this.

Quite peaceful, no?

Sister Ree has a slightly more unorthodox reading style with positions like this one:

Hmmm.

So, have you read any good books lately? If so, please share! I’m always looking for fun reads to add to the Kindle library and am a sucker for light, kinda funny books. I’m in the middle of reading Swapping Lives by Jane Green (like it so far!) that I got from the web site What Should I Read Next?

PS: I’m working on a post about computer/internet security for kids. Whew, it’s a whole new world, isn’t it?

  1. I used to live in Nantucket, so in the summer, I read anything by Elin Hildebrand. Lots of delicious food, scandal, and all are set in Nantucket. I think I've read them all.

I have been reading the Whiskey Sour series. It is VERY light hearted mystery series. So far I think there are only 2 books, Whiskey Sour and Whiskey Rebellion. A third is due out soon. They are very fun, light easy reads, but also very funny. The author has a way of pulling you in and making you care about the characters. Highly recommend for a fun and funny summer read. I couldn't put them down. If you like Janet Evanovich you will love these.

  4. Elizabeth Peter's Amelia Peabody series. There are quite a few really old ones that are hard to come by. I've read them all, but I started with The Last Camel Died at Noon. Egypt, archaeology, Victorian England.... very precocious children... strong female leading lady.

I am reading a book called Emily and Einstein. It's about a couple. The husband dies and comes back as the wife's dog. It is very cute and enjoyable. It was written by Linda Francis Lee.

  14. I second the comment for The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane for you and the the girls to share together! I love the author Lisa Scottoline....she has books out such as Save Me and Don't Go...not totally fluffy but excellent reads! I also loved the fluffy books of Nanny Diaries and Nanny Returns by Emma McLaughlin and Nicola Kraus! The Sisterchicks is a Christian series of fun, delightful reads! Meg Cabot is another excellent fluffy author! I think that the one reading position for stretching the calves!! When I was in 4th grade I read with my head hanging upside down from the chair. Yikes! 16. My book club just finished Me Before You by Jojo Moyes - such a good, heartfelt read. We also read Wild by Cheryl Strayed. I was expecting another Eat Pray Love (which I detested), but was pleasantly surprised by the author and her story. Finally, I HIGHLY recommend The Land of the Long White Cloud. Wonderful saga, well written, well developed characters and overall great book.
My go-to fluff is anything by Nora Roberts or Susan Elizabeth Phillips - never fail to amuse me.
    Happy reading!

Have you read Snow Flower and the Secret Fan, or anything else, really, by Lisa See? Shangai Girls, and Dreams of Joy were also excellent:) I also just finished reading a book that made me laugh out loud and had my hubby continuously asking me what I was snickering about:)It is called The Woefield Poultry Collective by Susan Juby. Hilarious! My daughter Isobel (7 yrs old) loves the Judy Moody series if you are looking for books for the kiddos!

Hi, I know this is an old post of yours, but I have an author/series that I love. The author is Alexander McCall Smith and the series is the "No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency." REALLY good, funny, and light! He wrote one story with the main character as a young girl; that one is for kids, although I enjoyed it too. (Can't remember the title) Happy reading! -- oh, and if you do read the series, you should probably read them in order, it will make more sense. Best wishes from New York.
