Simple pleasures

It’s been quiet around the house lately, and that’s ok with us. TubaDad started a big new job with a new company (congrats sweetie!) and was immediately sucked into a week-long offsite sales kickoff. And the girls of the house have been hanging out, playing card games, creating with PlayDoh, and for some reason making oodles of pudding.

That PlayDoh is always good for a couple of hours of joy, isn’t it? Just crack open some new cans, or mash up some homemade stuff. This week we did both.

Mama, Ro has pudding on her face.DSC_7438LR

Me? What? Where?

SAMSUNGSAMSUNGSAMSUNG You can tell which one’s mine, right? But how about the other two? Any guesses as to who made what?

About that pudding -- we suddenly can’t get enough. Have made it almost every night for a week now. Ro currently likes butterscotch pudding the best, I’m kind of partial to vanilla, and last night Ree wondered plaintively “Why isn’t anyone picking chocolate? I like the chocolate!” Heh. Bet we’ll have it again tonight. I haven’t yet tried the pistachio flavor on them, but that one might be a hard sell. Who knows though, they’ve been pretty good sports about trying new stuff lately, including last night’s Red Lentil Coconut soup (I’ll share the recipe in another post).

How do you make pudding? Here in New Zealand it's called custard (it's basically corn starch powder with food colouring that you mix up with cold milk and sugar then add to boiling milk and it thickens instantly). It only comes in plain flavour (which is no flavour really) so most people add vanilla essence to it. In my home country of Germany you can buy different flavoured sachets such as Vanilla, Cream, Almond, chocolate etc. Pat

  2. Thank you for the reminder to pull out our play dough. Good idea! I introduced the girls to "The Goonies" last weekend. So fun for me. Too much cursing, but luckily they can't stand repeating bad words; they laughed at most of the jokes. They were enthralled with it and "Princess Bride". I love revisiting my childhood!

  3. Okay, here's my guess....Ree made the butterfly and Ro made the unicorn and you made the bear?? They are all very cute!! My favorite pudding is vanilla....or you could really go crazy and swirl some vanilla and chocolate together! I love that combo as well!

Try Watergate salad with pistachio pudding: http://allrecipes.com/recipe/instant-pistachio-salad/ Ah... 70's food. We have a food dye allergy so no boxed pudding for us but this was one of my favorites when I was little.

Nurturing the girls' creativity is a fun thing, isn't it? There's no sense of boredom at all when you have kids at home. Even when you’re doing household chores, you still think about them and still feel excited to play with them again. I'm glad that you have these two beautiful angels!
