It seems so fast, but the girls start school this week, so we squeezed in a quick weekend getaway at a new destination called Pine Mountain Lake.
Cool place! We arrived at night and immediately dipped our toes in the lake – nice and warm, even though the sun had gone to bed a few hours before. The little house we rented was fun too. Right on the golf course and surrounded by roaming herds of deer.
TubaDad got up at the crack of dawn to play a short round—crazy boy—and the girls of the house slept in. Then we all played at the lake. (By “played” I technically mean the girls swam and built sand castles and TubaDad and I parked our chairs in the water and enjoyed nice, refreshing beverages. Ahhhh.)
After lunch we headed about an hour away to Yosemite and hiked until we could hike no more.
Ro and Ree did not want to leave Yosemite. We finally dragged them away with promises that we’d return soon and let them hang out in the river for as long as they wanted. Yosemite deserves more than a half a day, that’s for sure, but it’s all the time we had.
Back at home now, after a bit of lake play and a bit more driving. Worn out but happy. So is everyone else saying goodbye to summer, or do you have an adventure or two left?
Love Yosemite. I haven't been there in years and years but one day hope to get back there!
ReplyDeleteLooks like a great pre-school getaway. Didn't know you were hitting Yosemite too. Last time (and my only time) there was with you guys. Love that place! Hope your Monday is off to a great start! I just dropped Bob off at the Reno airport. Love, Aunt Jane
ReplyDeleteI didn't know that was the only time you'd been there! It's a crazy cool place.
DeleteHope you and Harley have a nice relaxing couple of days. We're chilling out and doing the last-minute get-ready-for-school stuff like new shoe shopping, getting the last of the school supplies, and grocery shopping for lunch supplies.
I live in Illinois but was at Yosemite a week ago. My heart was already given an extra workout from the hiking but if I would have recognized you, I think that would have put me over the edge! Even more of a coincidence is that I spent a few summers at my uncle's cabin in Pine Mountain. That part of California is absolutely beautiful!
ReplyDeleteHow fun! It was gorgeous, wasn't it?
DeleteYou probably wouldn't even have recognized us we were so sweaty and grimy. Happy though. :-)
Summer is still in full swing here! I'm sitting on our condo balcony in Florida as I type this! We always go away in mid August for our anniversary, so summer is "over" for us after that. We left a not-so-happy 4 year old with his grandparents for this trip. :)
ReplyDeleteCheers!! Have a wonderful anniversary and end of summer.
DeleteLooks like fun. Kids start school so early where you live. Did you guys go to Tahoe this summer?
ReplyDeleteYeah, I always wish they had a longer summer (until the last week, then I count down the days till school starts!).
DeleteWe were in Tahoe at the end of May. Nice trip!
We started school here last Monday in Florida...lots of "weekend Summer" left here. :)
ReplyDeleteYosemite? Awesome. We did St. Louis, and headed back to school here in Indianapolis today. Summer was lovely, but bring on the schedule and school year. Cheers to the girls!
ReplyDeleteMaybe coming your way.
ReplyDeleteSo fun! We are now in our 3rd week of school, so summer was over for us a while back :(
ReplyDeleteBut we did enjoy it to the fullest and are now looking forward to the Labor Day long weekend!
Hope the girls have a great year in school!
School starts early in California, but even earlier in other US states. Here in British Columbia (Canada) it starts after the Labour Day weekend. Mind you elementary school kids go until the 28/29 June. Hope grade three is a great year.
