Go put in a bid (but don't bid against me!)
If you missed all the memorial day sales this past weekend and have a little extra cash burning a hole in your pocket, why not put it to good use? Take a peek at the 2nd annual Born in My Heart Art Auction on eBay. Stacey Teague alerted me to this cool cause (she always finds the neatest web sites). It's sponsored by the Love Without Boundaries (LWB) Foundation, and 100% of the proceeds go to provide life-saving surgery for orphans in China.
To kick off the event, LWB invited artists to create a piece of art that expresses one of the themes of adoption, family, children, or China. They've got over a hundred really neat pieces in the auction, from paintings and sculptures to handmade quilts. They've even got a few of those controversial going-home Barbies from the White Swan hotel (yep, I wouldn't lie to you, and this one was going for over $300 the last time I checked). Over $13,000 was raised in last year's auction, and five children got surgery. Very cool!
***Update 6/7/05: I just got a notice from eBay that this auction has been cancelled "due to the account suspension of the seller." Weirrrrrrrrrd, man. Does anyone know anything about this? If you do, leave a comment and let me know. I'm dying of curiosity!
***Update 6/8/05: Got an email from LWB, eBay cancelled the auction in error and has now reinstated the items, but without any of the previous bids. Wow, nice. So go back and rebid, it's for a good cause and now they need your help even more.
