No more babies

Something happened when the girls turned three. It's like we've entered some kind of warp-speed for aging. They're looking and acting older by the minute, and all the physical remnants of babyhood are disappearing from our house too. The safety gates are gathering dust in the garage, those maddening locks are off the kitchen cupboards, the diapers and changing pads have been tossed out, and I can't remember the last time I got the stroller out of the back of the van. It's great and exciting, really it is, but it's sad too. Our girls are growing up so fast, there isn't an ounce of baby left. This week for the first time, instead of yelling for TubaDad and I when they woke up, they yelled for each other across the hallway. Ree: RoRo! Ro: ReeReeeeeeeeeeee! Ree: I in my room Ro! Ro: (Stomp stomp stomp, slam as she ripped opened her door, stomp stomp stomp as she ran across the hall, slam as she threw open Ree's door) Ree: Oh! Both: (giggle, giggle) Then they ran to our room and jumped in bed with us for our morning cuddle. Whew, at least our big girls still need us for that. And milkshakes -- they still need us for those too: DSC00120 DSC00129ms Ree left (making a scrunchie face) and Ro right. Here are two more quick pics. A "before" pic taken around 7pm tonight, and an "after" shot taken a few minutes ago. Notice anything different? Before After Sigh... It looks a little empty now, doesn't it? I listed the high chairs on Craigslist and got a response minutes later. I did have one tiny little second of remorse before hitting "publish" on the listing though. I actually called TubaDad and panicked him by asking if we were 100% certain there would be no more babies in our house. (He was certain. Ok, so am I, well maybe not 100%, more like 98%.). Tomorrow I'll list the babygates, jogging stroller, and cribs for sale. Yikes. PS: Note to self -- after looking at the pictures, now realize that the white dish drainer looks like crap. Must get a nice one that fits inside the sink.

They do grow up fast. Just you wait! Next thing you know, they'll be in kindergarden...and then middle school...and then you'll be getting grey when they start learning to drive!

  3. Firstly, your new website seems to like my internet provider much better! It doesn't crash!! Woohoo!

Oh my. The pic of the (scrunchy Marie face) girls, definitely shows "older" girls... not babies anymore! Geez, they look like they're about ready to throw on a backpack and go to school?!!! (HA! the mention of school, was purely for shock value!!!!)

You won't be sad that the h.chair's are gone! Imagine the extra space you'll have in your room!!!

  7. *sniff* no more high chairs? Your little girls really are growning up. *sigh!* As soon as you posted the before pic I steeled myself for the high chairs leaving. It's a fun, exciting time but oh my, it must be tough to let go of these pieces of babyhood.

They can get out of their rooms on their own? Cafrin will be ready for some snuggle buddies in February! Whee!! What better wake-up call could there be?

    Getting closer....

My goodness, they are huge, aren't they?

This is a great age too, though. You'll look back fondly on it.

  15. Look how tall they are getting...it's bittersweet to see our babies growing up.

  16. They do grow up so fast, but remember they will always need you and even when they are 13 they will still want you to give them a hug once in a while. ;) The trash can was gone too, out with the chairs??

  17. It is amazing how they grow up before our eyes and we don't realize it till one day there is a big girl in front of us. We sold a lot of baby stuff a while back and it was hard to let it go. OUr stroller hasn't been in our car in forever! It is sad to see the baby go, but also wonderful to see how much they have grown and matured.

I think Rose looks so much older on the stair pictures!

  19. Welcome to your children's childhood (as opposed to "babyhood" and "toddlerhood").

  20. Awwww, I feel you honey! Our babies turn three in January. And we missed so much of their babyhood that I'm super sad that they're growing up! We are still loving the morning cuddles too though!

    HUG 'EM TIGHT.

  21. They do look grown up in that picture. Our garage sale is tomorrow...bye bye highchair and infant stroller as well. I've long since parted with the swings, play mats and exersaucer. I took one last sniff of the baby onesies with all that Dreft scent and cried and cried.

No more babies here either. I luva ma' toddlers, but it's bittersweet, isn't it?

    Best Wishes,

    Lori

  22. Only one piece of advice: Keep the stroller or get a smaller one. Trust me, when they are bigger and fall asleep in the van just as you get to your destination, the stroller is great. Also good for carrying lunches and stuff when you go to the zoo.

    You've got me fogging up.

I hope that 2% comes true in a couple years. ;-) You will be surprised how empty the house will get when they go off to kindergarten.

  24. NO MORE BABIES, SAY WHAT??? OH! My son is 9 and I have that crib stashed away for the pure moment of insanity hits and I want to toss it.... It hasn't yet... :) They are growing up!

  25. Ahh no more babies. My girls are almost 2.5 and I can't believe it. We have the same highchairs but in pink, glad to know I can eventually get rid of them for something!

just think of all that extra space and not having to clean them.

  26. This is just the begining of them growing up. My little Mia will be 4 in January and I can't believe all of the things she has accomplished this year. She is no longer my little girl and it really does get me thinking of another one sometimes.

  27. Okay, I was going to say the trashcan is missing from the second picture. I think I may have been looking at those "what's different in this picture" that they have in the back of "People" magazine too often.

No more babies? Are you sure? ;)

They do look awfully grown up in that picture.

  28. That is so great...and sad about the girls growing up. They are great!

As for the drainer thingy...we used to have one of those. It nearly guaranteed the dishes did not get done, except once every week-...well, they got done when we ran out of clean dishes (and even then that was no guarantee, amazing how many different forms of dishware can hold cereal...). We have a dishwasher now and we actually clean dishes every day!

  29. OK, I first notice the trash can THEN I notice the chair.
Wait until they no longer drink from sippy cups THEN they will no longer be babies.
Emma still carries her blanket so that still makes her my little baby plus she loves to talk like a baby and I love it.
The girls are so cute and I love their hair!

  30. Thank you for giving me HOPE! THEY DO GROW UP! LOL! Kidding. A little. :-)

  31. Sad... no more babies.... at least living at your house. I am sure you will have visiting babies with Tate and Hannah still needing to visit the Salsa's....

If babies happen, can always buy more stuff!

  32. They grow up way too fast. It seems like just yesterday I was longing for a baby. My first baby is 10 now, how did that happen.

    ReplyDelete
  33. The next phase; not babies, but little KIDS!!~ is an awesome phase. It just gets better and better, so don't mourn the bye bye babies. Just remember that time fondly as you enjoy the heck out of today!

    ReplyDelete
  34. Sad to see the baby stuff go but isn't it nice to feel a little relief to get rid of all that stuff hanging around and getting in the way? Your house is so pretty.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Hey, your NEVER safe from no more babies...just look at me :)

They are such cute big girls :)

    ReplyDelete
  36. Don't tell me that about 3--we're about a month away from Mary Joyce's 3rd birthday. :-( Of course, we still have babies around, but she is growing up way too fast.

    ReplyDelete
  37. You want to talk about time flying? My "baby" is in his senior year of high school... good thing I have four other "babies" at home to keep me busy!

I held on to everything baby for 10 years - and hauled it out two years ago when we adopted Katie. Everything but the stroller, that is -- strollers take a beating in our household.

Now the boys are closing in on 18, 16 & 14 and Katie will be three next month, while our youngest turned two today! I can honestly say, at this point in my life that I'm ready to get rid of the baby things when Ella doesn't need them anymore.

Of course, with an 18 year old, it won't be too long before I'll need them for the grand kiddos, so maybe I'd better hold on to them! KIDDING!!! (I'd BETTER NOT be a Grandma before that boy turns 25!)

    ReplyDelete
  38. Awww, I know how that feels. Relish every moment, they grow up so fast!

    ReplyDelete
  39. Honey the dish drainer is the LAST thing we'all read Salsa for!!! No more babies????? Hmmmmm.

  40. You know, they do look more like big girls! Still just as cute. We mut be living parallel lives as we are taking down Claire's crib this weekend! We put the girls into the same room in their new beds on Thursday night. Needless to say, we're all very tired.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Okay that is really sad. Even though you are sure, there is still that baby twang that gets a mom.

    ReplyDelete
  42. I am impressed that you were able to keep the girls in the high chairs even THAT long... even my one year wants Ooooouuuuttttt!!!! LOL!
    Have a blessed one!
