And then the happy dance abruptly ended
TubaDad picked up a couple TubaNuts at the grocery store this morning and was going to hide them until Christmas. But the girls "helped" him unpack the groceries and found one of the treasures. They were so excited they almost burst, and we just didn't have the heart to take it away.
Hurry sister, hurry, I can't wait to get my hands on this stuff:
Oh wow, we're actually holding TubaNuts. A brief moment of silence...:
Look, mama, look what we have, can you believe it?! Ro sings a loving little song to her TubaNuts, and Ree says "We figured it out, mama!":
Unable to talk because they're so busy chewing. I like the way Ree isn't taking any chances that Ro will run off with the rest of the TubaNuts:
And then, abruptly, the fun ended. #$%^! I was changing lenses and my 18-200mm rolled off the counter and bounced a few times on the floor with a sickening glass-crunching sound:

Oh, no! Your adoring public is going to suffer greatly.
ReplyDeleteThat makes for some mighty expensive Tubanuts!
ReplyDeleteSanta needs to make a quick trip back to the North Pole or local mall....
Merry Christmas to all! Thank you for so many smiles and feel good moments on your Blog this past year.
haha liked it too when i was their age
ReplyDeleteYou have been mighty good this year. I wouldn't give up hope. Christmas is magic you know.
ReplyDeleteGillian
So sorry about the lens...maybe Santa will bring you a new one:)
ReplyDeleteThe girls look very happy with their Tuba nuts....such sweet smiling faces!
Merry Christmas:)
Lisa
Oh no about the camera lens, but YEA!!!!!!!!! about the Tubanuts!!!!!!!!!! Hilarious!
ReplyDeleteawe poor lens. At least Santa knows what to get you now.
ReplyDeleteUGH!
ReplyDelete" Santa, Uh, I need to add something to my list!"
oh. no. At first I thought maybe they didn't actually like the tubanuts, but that sucks about your lens!
ReplyDeletePS do you always dress them so freakin' cute? I already know the answer to that...
No........! That's horrible. The lens part. Ouch.
ReplyDeleteMy first reaction was the OH! face, you know with the rounded lips. Then I cried a bit for your lens...as a camera lovin' gal, I feel for you. My worst nightmare!
ReplyDeleteOuch, I guess you and the girls need to beat feet to the mall to pay another visit with Santa to update your wish list.
ReplyDeleteOh....I'm just sick!! SO sorry! Are you able to have just the lens portion replaced or does the whole thing need to be replaced? ((hugs)) It can happen so easily but it just makes us ill!
ReplyDeleteOn a better note, glad the TubaNuts were a success. Silly me thought the worst thing that could have happened was that the tubanuts weren't what they were looking for. If only......
Oh the sight of that cracked lens is like a stabbing of the heart! Wishing y'all a fabulous Xmas (and thx for keeping us on the list!!!)
ReplyDeleteOhhhhhhh NO!!! Call your insurance agent and see if it's covered by your home owner's policy. Seriously, you'd be amazed by what IS covered, and it can't hurt to ask, now can it?
ReplyDeleteOH man, I totally just cringed at that. :(
ReplyDeleteThank goodness we know what Tubanuts are....it was keeping me up at night!
ReplyDeleteMonica
Oh mighty blessed day! TUBANUTS, of course. It's amazing how these 3 year olds won't lie, but it's so hard to find the truth in their stories.
ReplyDeleteI'm off to find the "puter" my daughter asked from Santa, and then told everyone Santa would be bringing her. After all her presents were bought, of course.
Merry Christmas,
Lori
Mommy of Sara & Kelly
Oh man that sucks. Sounds like something that'd happen to me. :(
ReplyDeleteNOOOOOOOO!!!!!! Not the lens!
ReplyDeleteHow many TubaNuts is that, anyway?
I am SO SORRY. That stinks.
ReplyDeleteGood news - the damage seen in the picture is the remnants of the broken filter. The glass internal to the lens is still intact, and the lens still works! It probably will go to the shop for an adjustment after the holidays, but at least it's not totally destroyed.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite store in the world... TARGET, has "santa" bubble tape in their stocking stuffer aisle if you need more!
ReplyDeleteOUCH! Oh how such joy can turn to agony?!
ReplyDelete:) You might wanna swing by my place tomorrow.
bummer!
ReplyDeleteThe girls are cracking me up!! They're so stinkin' CUTE!! It's a good thing we don't live any closer because I would be a tubanut dispensing fool every time I saw them! Seriously! Look at those faces! PRECIOUS!!
ReplyDeleteWOOHOO!! Those filters are a life saver!! I'm so glad it wasn't as bad as it looked!
Hugs,
June and Lilli
Yay for the Tubanuts, but EEEEK for the camera!
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness!! Your poor heart as it must have stopped! I'm sorry! I hope your lense is going to be fixable!
ReplyDeleteYeah for Tubanuts but boo for busted lens!
ReplyDeleteKeep smilin!
GASP! I was NOT expecting that sort of horrific ending!
ReplyDeleteIt's like a fabulous conclusion to a movie where the man and woman finally find each other, they run towards one another, and embrace where they meed...then they get hit by a bus. I will cringe about that lense all day!!!
I'm with Gramma on this - those are some mighty expensive TubaNuts!
-Ellie
Thank goodness for filters! It did its job!!! wahooo! YAY, for Tubanuts! I will never look at rolled bubble gum the same way!!!!
ReplyDeleteOh my. This makes me hurt. I'm so sorry. :-(
ReplyDeleteOh no, if I dropped a lens I'd cry. I only have two and I know how darn expensive those things are. I even have an after-market quantarrey and don't want to break it either. Oh, I hope you get another before Christmas.
ReplyDeleteYIPPEE! I'm so glad the tubanuts mystery has had a successful conclusion. My girls love these rolls of gum too, I just never knew they had that name before. Silly me.
ReplyDeleteMy heart breaks for your lens, that's just so painful to look at, I don't know what I'd do. :-(
i've never been a fan of tuba nuts, but it looks like the girls hit the jackpot. hey, whatever floats their boat :)
ReplyDeletesorry to see that the party ended on a sad note... maybe santa will get the message in time to get you a replacement lens for Christmas!
I almost cried looking at that. As a fellow camera-lover (although I lean to the Canon side, lol) I can't even imagine how your stomach must have just come into your throat. I'm sorry. :(
ReplyDeleteGlad they enjoyed the tubnuts. Really sorry about the lens. Maybe santa will help you out. You have been a good little mama this year.
ReplyDeleteHEART BREAKING!!!! :(
ReplyDeleteAck! That's not a good way to celebrate the holidays! In fact, that totally bites.
ReplyDeleteHappiness and full all out sadness in the same post!!
ReplyDelete:(
Sorry to hear about your lens!!
WooHoo on the Tubanuts!!!!
Glad that the lens isn't broken.
ReplyDeleteToo funny about tubanuts! I feel really stupid that I didn't think of the answer, since Hubba Bubble is my daughters' absolutely favorite thing in the world. They beg for it on every single trip to the grocery store.
Just be warned - those little pink globs of gooey chewed gum stick to everything. Get your butter knife handy!
Happy holidays!
OH NOOOOOOOOOOOOO
ReplyDeleteSay this is a bad joke and just a photo-shopped picture. PLEASE.
But then again, the 18-200 doesn't work well on the D700 (or the D3 / D3x) ;-)
I'm so sorry. As much as I am happy that the girls are enjoying their TubaNuts.
Oh, no....that is soooooo sad! I've been drooling over that lense so am sick for you!!!! Hope Santa finds you Christmas morning with a load of tuba nuts AND a new lense!
ReplyDeleteThe girls are so adorable and my family is thrilled the mystery is finally solved!
Merry Christmas!
Stephanie
Oh my stars, thank heaven it's just the filter. Hope a adjustment shows all is right on the inside, too.
ReplyDeleteGlad the TubaNut mystery has been solved!
Merry Christmas!
Just read all your December posts and I loved catching up with all that is happening in the Salsa house. Loved opening this year's card and seeing two lovely non-crying girls!! Happy to hear that you figured out the great mystery of 2008 but sorry to hear about your lens. Have a wonderful Christmas and hugs to all of you.
ReplyDeleteoh Gosh. that picture of your camera lens makes me physically ill.... so sorry!!!!!
ReplyDeleteRequiem for a lens. Over dinner tonight, Tim mentioned that you suffered a broken "super magic lens that does everything and is the reason I bought a Nikon in the first place." I am not really sure what all that means, but he did mention how much it costs, incidentally the same price as my first car, and I feel very sad for your loss.
ReplyDeleteSo happy you found Tubanuts. Quickly repaced by total sadness for the lens. Hopefully TubaDad is right and a quick trip to the shop will cure all!
ReplyDeleteMERRY CHRISTMAS!!!!!!
Ut oh.....
ReplyDeleteFound your blog while blog surfing and I love it :)
What a sad ending to your tuba nut celebration! Glad to hear it's not as bad as it looks! The looks on their cute faces are priceless.
ReplyDeletei was feeling all tuba happy but dude. oh man.
ReplyDeletethe LENS.
i am totally feeling all of your pain right now.
all of it.
i would hug you if i could. i'm so sorry.
Yikes!! I'm so sorry about the lens! Bummer.
ReplyDeleteThe girls look SO happy to have that gum... who knew!
We wish you a very Merry Christmas!
Ouch! I actually felt physical pain when I saw that shattered lens!
ReplyDeleteI hope you guys have a wonderful Christmas though. Maybe Santa will replace that lens -- he must know you've been a really good girl this year!
:)

Our Blog: Double Happiness!
I actually think that you can just buy a lens filter. Clear should do the trick, unless something inside the lens broke. I think the lens will still work if the inside is not damaged.
ReplyDeleteOh, just read Tubadada's comment about the glass. Glad to know it is ok!
ReplyDelete1. I am so impressed by the girls ability to make such an interesting request and resolve the mystery so well. They are going to be a great team of sleuths someday.
ReplyDelete2. I am so sorry about your lens. I actually winced when I saw it. I am glad this story has a happy ending and it was just the filter but ouchie anyway, it must have just made you sick to hear that thing bounce and shatter...I know it made my stomach twist and I don't even own a nice lens or camera yet but I'm hoping maybe Santa will be really kind this year. I am forever dropping my cameras though so this makes me think extra hard about it...but the photos you capture are priceless so I suppose its worth its weight in gold however long it may last
Merry Tuba Christmas

Oh yeah that is bad.
ReplyDeleteOH NO! Your lens is ruined! Oh poor M3. I would have cried. I love my camera soo much. It would have made me sad. Plus, you take like 47 photos a day of the girls. at least!! But, you did solve the mystery of the Tuba Nuts. I think that will live in infamy for years in your family! So that's something.
ReplyDeleteOh ugh!! That story did not end well at all. Hugs!
ReplyDeleteMerry Chirstmas!
ReplyDeleteSorry about the lens... That was so sad!
Merry Christmas!!
ReplyDeleteNow that the TubaNuts has been identified & purchased, Christmas is complete.
Sorry to see the aftermath of your lens incident. I'm pretty sure that someone will be replacing that for you soon.
