Still haven't figured out the TubaNuts

We let the girls run rampant at Target yesterday and then visited a grocery store today and very methodically went from item to item. And we still don't have a clue what TubaNuts are. We made a big huge list of the suggestions from the last post and showed the girls every single item, and each thing got an instant "no." So we're still in the dark. At this point we know that TubaNuts are not: Candy bars of any kind in the candy aisle Chewing gum of any kind (straight sticks, rolled, bubblegum, etc.) Coconuts Fruit by the foot Fruit gushers Fruit roll Fruit rollups Fruit snacks Lifesavers Nuts of any kind, either in a tube or packaged any other way Toblerone Tootsie pops Pez We didn't find whistle candy or bugle snacks, so those guesses are still in play. Ro stoically said that we should try the candy store tomorrow and Ree quickly agreed. Gee what a sacrifice they're willing to make. Heh. They saw another Santa today, by the way, and confidently told him that they want TubaNuts for Christmas. We'll keep trying. Here's a quick clip of the girls gone wild at Target: And here they are today, ready to head out to the grocery store and gamely hunt for those damn TubaNuts. Ro dressed them both, by the way. She picked the clothes out yesterday and kind of adamantly hung them in the hall. She wanted Ree to wear the same tights that she had on, but at the last minute Ree ran back into her room and picked the ones with red hearts instead. I'm betting that she knew she was going to grab the red shoes when she got downstairs, but who knows. DSC_5391 The hunt continues...

Why don't you have them draw a picture of "tubanuts." Give them white paper and crayons and tell them to draw "tubanuts" so you can give the picture to Santa so he knows what they look like

  2. You are the cutest mom! Good luck w/ those dang "tuba nuts". I would ask my girls but they confuse me sometimes too.

  3. Picture is a good idea....

I'm sure you saw them at Target, but what about those tubes of candy -like hershey kisses, etc - that they make for Christmas. The ones with a topper of something special - like an M&M man or Snoopy. Maybe they saw a specific one and are looking for it?

I'm so sorry!! This is a tough one!!

Have you asked their teachers? Maybe there has been a discussion at school about something that sounds similar? This is quite a mystery!

  5. Some box stores sale cotton candy in a tub. ??

Have you asked them to show you where they saw it in a magazine?

Have you let them look at this website If it aint here it aint candy.

The way I see it I don't think they know what a "tubanut" is. I think after watching the first video it probably is a tube shaped in a candy cane with some kind of candy in them because I don’t remember who said it but she said “you pour it and then eat it” something like that. Maybe they do know what they are saying so if they have only been with you and school then I would ask the teacher about that. One more important thing, don’t worry if you don’t find it! It looks like if Santa brings them a lollipop they will be as happy as having a “tubanut.” It was cute to see Ree saying something like you should get them a lollipop instead since they can’t find the “tubanuts.” So cute! I also think that if you buy them a tube of candy (Christmas kind) and just say it is a “tubanut” that they will believe it is but you need to say it is and not ask them if it is. I think that a kid with their favorite candy in a tube won’t argue about it. This is just in case you really can’t help Santa find the “tubanuts.”

  8. I can not WAIT to find out what TubaNuts are.
It is funny how it does not matter where you live ALL Targets look the same:)

Wait! Maybe I have it! Is it Smarties or Sweettarts? They come in a tube like packaging, they can be red, they are about the size that Ro (or Ree was it?) said they are, they are round, they are not chocolate. PLUS, you may not see them displayed at target this time of year! Could it be?? Do I win the prize?ha ha Good luck!

On another note, is this the same spot in your house you've taken pictures of the girls before, and they use to be SHORTER than the knob in the door?? Boy, haven't they grown!

What about sprees - the candy ... they come in a tube and are multicolored and you can usually only find them by the check outs.

I hate to even suggest it, but maybe "TubaNuts" are imaginary things concocted by the secret twin society. Maybe they schemed together at preschool like, "Wouldn't it be cool to find 'TubaNuts'" and mentally invented the perfect candy.
    I see marketing plan!

Is it one of the snacks you take specifically on your road trips? Corn nuts maybe?

I agree with possibly having them draw it.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Having them draw it sounds good.

Any chance your girls speak..twinese? Like twin talk that only they understand? Maybe it's one of their made up twin words?? Can you tell I'm desperately grasping at straws for you?!? LOL

  18. what about nerds??? they are small like nuts but are candy.........

    ReplyDelete
  19. It's possible that someone brought something to school to share and called it by that mystery name and now the girls believe this is what it's called. My son had a green inflatable dinosaur he affectionately called "grassy-porjy" and all of his friends wanted one too. Can you imagine what their parents must have gone through to figure that one out!? Oh, I guess you can!

    :)

I also like the idea of having them try to draw it.

Maybe Chupa Chups? It's a brand of lollipop... and other lollipop-like candies? They should have them at the candy store. And their packages are multicolored... but the flavor could cause it to be pink? Good luck.

Do you think it is the tube of mini m & m's...the tubes are multicolored and so are the candies. You pop the top open to take them out. You can get them at the checkouts at grocery store, Target and Walgreens.....You still have a couple of days to find the tubanut...someday I will tell you the story of how Santa was bringing Kyle a polar bear and he did not tell me this until the 23rd of Dec.!!!HAHA!

    ReplyDelete
  28. How neat that you took them hunting for Tubanuts. I have no idea what they are. I'll have to show the video to Slugger and see if he has any ideas.

Like others have commented, I love that they both know what they mean.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Anonymous12/12/2008

I didn't hear "Tuba" from the girls until suggested tuba. What I heard first in the video was "chewy" something.

Or could it be "scooby snacks"? They make those in a fruit snack.

    Good luck!

At 2 and a half, our daughter would yell out when excited, or just to finish a sentence “No krebovbet!” We were stymied. For about six months we tried to figure it out, and then, lucky for us, Christmas rolled around and I had the eureka moment: “No crib for a bed.” So maybe tubanuts will be in the girls’ Easter basket...I hear Santa and the Easter Bunny help each other out...

    ReplyDelete
  33. Maybe Rasinettes???

    ReplyDelete
  34. What about cotton candy? It can be pink or multi-colored. You "roll" out the layers (kind of) to eat it and the stick can look like a tube?

    Just an idea.

    ReplyDelete
  35. I was so hoping to see the girls run to a spot, victoriously hold up a package and exclaim "TUBANUTS!" Well... better luck today, I'm just dying to know what these things are.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Thanks so much for answering my "tights" question. Well at least you have the tuba nuts pinned down to being candy, right?? Good luck!

    ReplyDelete
  37. One more idea-what about candy necklaces? They are multi-colored and come in a bag that could look like a tube (and they probably have them at the candy store)?

  44. M3,
I thought of you today when my girls asked for a cookie nut. I laughed and asked what a cookie nut was. They grabbed a cookie that we're giving to neighbors and pointed to the small m&m's- see, cookie nut. Sooo, my guess is a tube of m & m's (like other's mentioned :)
    Good luck

    ReplyDelete
  48. without hearing the description, my first thought was "two barrettes," which you could certainly get at the grocery store or see in a magazine, and could come in pink or multicolored. But they're not candy, so who knows.

Also, it sounded like they said "you roll them out" so maybe it's some sort of dough...like a tube of peanut butter cookie dough, or some sort of play-dough toy that looks like it makes candy.

    I really have no idea.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Okay...haven't had time to read all of the comments...so maybe this has already been suggested...but could it be chocolate kisses...with nuts in them...the kisses sort of look like tubas...and since they are used to seeing tubas??? Maybe they don't recognize them wrapped in a bag...and they are probably not wrapped in pink like they could have been for say Easter...

Sorry is this was already suggested...just a thought...

Good luck with the tuba nut hunt!!!

  52. you know how you call your DH "TubaDad" do you call him that in front of the girls? because maybe they are carrying this over to other things and they are just "nuts". have they had those colored chocolate covered sunflower seeds? trying to think of multi-colored nuts....

    ReplyDelete
  53. Anonymous12/12/2008

I think they are saying "two" and not "tu"ba. I don't know what a "ba nut" is though. Maybe they're looking out for each other and think Santa should bring two of everything. I have twin brothers and definately agree that twins have their own language. Good luck!!

  54. I think tubanuts are like make believe friends. They've talked about them so much that they've convinced themselves that tubanuts exist.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Since they said it was in a magazine and they can't read yet......... my guess is they saw it in a picture with a tuba cause they do know what a tuba is and what they saw could have just been something colorful in the same picture. Maybe jewelery or buttons or anything that looked pretty and tasty. I think you should have them look at the magazines around your house and see if they find it there.

I love the way those girls hold hands so often but never seem to cling to one another and venture out so independantly. I also love that they have parents who will struggle to understand what they are saying.

Unlike some commenters, I think they do know what they mean. They were truly searching - not meandering around asking for this or that. Other than the distraction of peanut butter cups (which I can guarantee I would be snagged by too lol) they didn't just find candies they do like or disagree on what they were searching for.

Piper's Dad asked if TubaDad has a sticker or anything that says "Tuba Nut" on it that they may have associated with a candy on a concert trip or something...? Or a tuba or musician magazine? Just a shot.

I asked Piper if she knew what a TubaNut was, you know - 3-year-old to 3-year-old - and she said, "I don't know! Tuba Nut?!"

    She's stumped as well.

  62. M and M's - the peanut ones? I also saw chocolate covered sunflower seeds that were multicolered In a little tube. They were at the checkout at our local market. Good luck with that one. You could always guess and tell them they are the tubanut's cousins.

  64. What about those little candy sunflower seeds that come in plastic tubes? They are multicolored and are chocolate covered with a candy coating (red, green, and white this season). I know that Barnes and Nobles sells them with other impulse items (Lindor truffles and Jelly Bellies) at their sales counters. I have a 3 year old candy hound from the Jiangxi province in my household. She asked Santa for a trip to see Willy Wonka's factory this Christmas. Wouldn't it be fun if we really could visit that candy wonderland...

call me crazy...but honestly, I think Ro said "chewing gum" and that is why she told you it is pink. I think she is talking about the gum that rolls out by the foot. She even said something about "you roll it out" and you "chew it" and I have to agree with the other poster that said she said "chewy" or "chewing" and not "tuba" until you prompted her to say "tuba". I don't know if Ree really knows that Ro is saying because she seemed to be playing along with your prompting too, but I think Ro really did say "chewy gum" or "chewing gum" and you may not have been in the gum aisle in Target so that's why they couldn't find it? Anyway - Try looking for gum that is in a little tin and rolls out by the foot and see if that is it? worth a try...good luck!

The girls are so adorable!!! I'm sure they will just LOVE whatever Santa brings them! :)

hi, I am a random reader and have 3 little boys!! I know how difficult it can be to find some of these things. I have an idea on what " tuba nuts" might be..what about those M&M candies that are smaller the " minis" and they come in tubes at the grocery, and are all diffrent colors of tubes you can get???? Inside of course its the mulicolored M&Ms but the outside " tube" literally can be pink, red, blue, yellow????

  77. tuba-tuba nuts from the Jathropa plant make bio-diesel.... Aside from using the seed oil as biodiesel, the extracted oil can also be used in making soap. The leaves can be used for fumigating houses to expel bugs. The root extract can be used as yellow dye while the bark extract as blue dye. The seeds when pounded can be used for tanning while the roots, flowers and latex of the tuba-tuba plant are said to have medicinal properties.

here is every small candy you could possibly think of. Maybe you can show them the pictures and they can tell you if they look like one of them.

If she saw it in a magazine and cant read at all, she may have made up the name. Maybe showing the pictures will help.

Do tell us if they draw a picture of a tuba nut! We may be able to help identify the candy via the picture!
