Yeah, nothing special about this picture at first glance, right?
But it gives an awful lot of clues about what a typical morning looks like around here:
And typical is pretty darn nice, if you ask me. No one's sick (yessss!), everyone is happy, and we're about to sample the chocolate-chip-bacon pancake mix* that I got TubaDad for Christmas. Mmmmm. Have a great New Year's Eve. And speaking of, does anyone have any good kid-friendly ideas for how to ring in the New Year?

As kids, we rang in the New Year along with our parents, in a huge party, at midnight... Same goes for our kids... Sorry, no kid friendly ideas, but the kids LOVE that they get to stay up laaaaate and participate in a grown-up party :)

We're just staying in and having a "cocktail" party with Pi. We'll have a dinner of kid-friendly hors d'oeuvres and she gets to have her new favorite drink - a Shirley Temple! We're going to enjoy them in front of the TV (another rarity!) while watching either the Tinkerbell movie or Snow White. Happy New Year Salsa Family!
ReplyDeletePots and Pans, or dry pinto beans stapled inside of two paper plates (think tamborine).... it is better then letting them loose in the back yard with a .357 magnum to "ring" in the new year.

hah. i have a friend who set every clock in the house ahead by a couple of hours, had her children blow up to many balloons which she suspended from the ceiling and then at 'midnight' she let them down amid all the horn blowing and noise makers so the babies could see in the new years.

Know what's good?? Get a maple bar from your favorite doughnut shop. Make some yummy crispy bacon. Crumble up the yummy crispy bacon and sprinkle it on top of the Maple Bar. Eat the Maple Bacon Doughnut. Super good!!
ReplyDeleteNew years with the kidlets? bang pots with wooden spoons and yell "Whoop" and "Happy New Year" outside as loud as you can.
Go through and read your blog starting with last January.
Talk about things you're going to look forward to for next year.
Make a big deal of hanging up a new calendar.
Just have a happy time!!
Go to Target and buy some of their "Party Poppin" it should be fun for the girls to make some noise with these poppers. And don't forget to get your empty suitcase ready so you can go out and walk around your neighborhood with it at midnight. My uncle said if you do that you will travel a lot.

We all stay up til midnight, do auld dance, then all out onto the front porch and shout at the tops of our voices, Happy New Year, send a few rockets up, with handwritten names on for people who we love, and then some sparklers and then back indoors to warm up!

OMG! You mean you don't wash, dry, curl, and spray the girls' hair every day??? They aren't dressed to the nines to go the the grocery store??? You mean...gasp!...you're NORMAL??? Say it isn't so!
ReplyDeleteUntil they can tell time, we would watch the ball drop in NY at 9:00 PST (12:00 EST), pretend it's midnight and send the kids to bed.

well i'm too late, but my mom would get the pans and wooden spatulas out, and we'd bang away on new years eve. not sure how she put up with the racket though :O)

There is nothing better than typical. I love it! We're growing out bangs, so don't even look at the hair around here...ugh.
ReplyDeleteWe let the girls pick the restaurant (going out is a rare treat), and we had many giggles over pizza and breadsticks. Then they ate Nutella toast and bananas...content that this was as WILD as it could get, they took a long bubble bath and went to bed. Oh...to be 4 years old again.

My kidlets spent the evening trying to set things on fire with their sparklers, then discussed the pros and cons of each fire starting technique in bed until v. late. Don't know if this would be classes as a 'good' idea, though.

We must know where you got the pancake mix. So fun to continue to watch your girls grow. Please know you are doing a fine job parenting twins.....I am pulling my hair out daily parenting my two that are 23 months apart. You inspire me.
