Over the hills of snow

Big day for the little peeps. Actually, big day for everyone. The fun started last night with a late-night walk in the snow. We were originally planning to drive around the lake and show the girls all the Christmas lights, but then BobBob and Wela tried to sneak off on a walk, so we crashed their party. Probably put a little damper on their smooching and handholding, but the girls sure enjoyed it. Heh. It was lightly snowing, and beautiful. IMG_1177 IMG_1194 IMG_1196

We did a little more skiing and sledding today. This hill in front of the cabin just rocks. Ro got even braver and was trying to go as fast as possible and Ree preferred sledding to skiing. Hey TubaDad, are you getting tired of pulling little 40-pounders up the hill yet? IMG_1205 IMG_1213m IMG_1214m IMG_1224m

Did you know that if your sister crashes her head into your lip, an icicle does wonders for the swelling? IMG_1226 IMG_1228

You can imagine the squeals of delight when TubaDad pointed out that the roof of the cabin was practically a breeding ground for icicles: IMG_1231

An igloo was attempted, but BobBob was just not happy with the quality. I believe he used the words "structurally unsound" or something like that. Those NASA engineers are just picky I tell you! IMG_1233

The girls said they wanted to get icecream this afternoon (and no one in our family has ever said no to icecream, nevermind that it's 20-something degrees) so we piled in the car and headed for the nearest parlor. After two or three minutes, it was suspiciously quiet and we looked back to see two stiff little bundled up bodies, asleep in their mittens: IMG_1235

After they woke up, we found some icecream and a cool mountain gondola ride (it was a little foggy in there, so just imagine the amazing view, ok?):

It has really started snowing heavily tonight, so much so that we're a little worried we're going to get snowed in and won't be able to leave tomorrow. We'll see. We've got plenty of Cheerios and milk, so no one's in danger of starving or anything, but there is no chocolate in the cabin, which is pretty bad if you ask me. In the meantime, it sure is purdy! The girls were singing "Over the hills of snow!" (I think it's from Frosty the Snowman?) as we drove around, and they've been trying to catch snowflakes on their tongues all evening.

Sweet! They're playing vintage 70s games right now, and I'm cursing the dial up connection and trying to blog. It doesn't really matter if it takes a while, we don't have any tv, I've finished my book, and it doesn't look like we're going for any walks tonight. I guess if this post shows up, then it worked.

So jealous. This Houstonian would love to be snowed in right about now (though chocolate would definitely be a necessity!).

  5. You went to the snow and we went away from it! We just got back from a trip. And came home to more white stuff! It looks like you all had so much fun. Kinda made me laugh about your parents smootching and hand holding...obviously you have their number. Love the icicle pic! What fun!!! Merry Christmas. Late, but we were gone.

  9. Wow, looks like you guys are having a blast! The cottage looks lovely!!

I can't wait to get Naomi skiing next year (or maybe she'll want to snowboard like her brother)

Oh, I bought one of those car seat tables - it was hard to find here but I am so glad I did because Naomi loves it! Thanks!

  11. Send me your quadrants friend and I'll have some chocolate air lifted in ASAP!! It sounded absolutely perfect until you mentioned the lack of chocolate and my heart did a little flip flop for you. In fact, I've tucked into our Christmas chocolate for brekkie today hoping to telepathically send you some of the chocolaty yumminess. Is it helping?

GREAT vacay and it's a treat for us to enjoy it with you via the pics of all the fun!! Thanks for persevering with the dial-up for us!

    Happy snow days!!

  12. I love how much the grandparents are enjoying the girls. I have so many fond memories of being " spoiled" by my grandpa...
If there's a chance you'll be snowed in, better do a chocolate + wine run :)

  13. That looks like an amazing little get-away for the girls. What fun! Reminds me of when I was little in the snow!! (when I liked it!!!!)

We have no snow here now, and I'm thrilled to bits (and considering where I live it's a bloomin' miracle!!!) LOL

    All the best for 2010,

  18. What a great vacation! Next time I'm betting you will remember to pack more chocolate, or at least the fudge sauce, enough to last the whole vacation. It really isn't a great vacation if you are without your favorite snack.
