Quick, without looking, do you have any idea what's in your purse?

I didn't. I just knew it was getting heavier and heavier and I was having a hard time finding fairly important items like my wallet and reading glasses. So I dumped it out, and the girls and I were kind of amused to find all of this: DSC_3914LR It's like a purse-snapshot of my life, I guess. There are a bunch of Target receipts, reading glasses (curses to over-forty eyesight), a couple of pink rubber gloves that I filched from some dr's office for Ro and Ree, ear plugs from a recent MRI, two emergency starburst candies (to be used in cases that call for immediate child bribing), chapstick (never without it), migraine medication (never without that either), a bunch of kleenex (is it possible to travel without tissues if you have kids?), and a whole bunch of other things that apparently I just couldn't live without. I did manage to ditch at least half of the stuff, though, and can actually see the bottom of my purse now. Wonder how long it'll stay that way? Alright, anyone care to rifle through the contents of your purse and divulge what you've really got in there? If you've got a blog, you could even post a picture!

    How Funny!
A local radio station here used to have a morning show contest for the strangest thing in your purse. Callers would call in and the hosts would vote. it was hilarious!

  2. Trade out those Target receipts for a bunch of coupons and that baby powder for R's eczema lotion and we have the identical contents in our purses. Uncanny. That explains why my shoulder always hurts.

I did exactly what you did yesterday and I discovered 5 rocks in my purse along with numerous hair items, some fruit roll ups and stickers.

  4. This disease is treatable. I now only carry wallet, cell phone, tissue and gums. The best medication is to carry a second bag for items you cannot leave without so your purse stays nice and clean

  5. LOL.. That's a mommy's purse. You are very brave to take a picture of it. I am afraid to dump mine..

  7. Yup...I've got the same kinds of things...PLUS more! I did a post similar to this. Want to take a peek inside my old purses I started cleaning out? I have pictures!

BAH! It's nuts! But I figure I'd win if I ever end up on Let's Make a Deal.

  8. I just cleaned my purse and found over 17 receipts stashed in the bottom (ATM, supermarket, drugstore, dry cleaners...) and a half open lolly... among a whole bunch of assorted (important!) stuff :-)

  9. Easy. Wallet and pencil. Nothing else. There's not room. I carry a very small purse on purpose--you want something, YOU carry it! I refuse to carry things for others.

  10. I know mine is clean now after a thorough cleaning last week. I use a backpack and was really heavy and I decided to clean it out. It was not even funny, found alot of what you did plus an unused diaper from when Rieley still wore them, about 4/5 months ago. Way too long in between cleanings.
Hey, what do you use for your migraines? I can't find anything that works that doesn't knock me out, so use motrin and deal with pain.

One time I found an old hamburger in my purse! One of the kids hadn't eaten it, so I put it in there to take home for later and forgot about it. By the time I found it, it was rock hard. Gross!!

  12. Mine is always full of snacks and my kids know it. Optimistically, I always think they don't know about them, and therefore I can surprise them. We adopted the youngest (23 months) only a few months ago, and he already points to my purse in church when he wants a snack.

Backpack. Wallet, kleenex, keys, book, lip gloss, doggie poop bags, handiwipes.

  14. Umm, what is that angular U-shaped metal thing with the circle on one end? It looks like a rear view mirror for your cell phone.

A clean purse feels like such an accomplishment even though short lived.

Speaking of kleenex, I have a small pouch in my purse and then wipes in the car. I was driving my husband's car the other day and my daughter was in the back seat and sneezed in her hand and desperately needed a wipe or kleenex...I couldn't even find an old fast food napkin in the glove compartment - NOTHING. Thankfully, I found a fairly shabby looking small kleenex in the very bottom of my purse and I thought - this is better than a hand full of snot, right?

Kelly Styring wrote an entire book about purse contents. I can't think of the name right now. I also have issues with my tiny knapsack being over run all the time from lack of time to keep stuff from accumulating. I just emptied mine out so I could travel lightly -- I found Broadway show guides, extra chapstick (I don't travel without it either), allergy medicine, asthma medicine, gift cards, purses wtih earphones in them for plane travel, and so much other stuff -- oh, yeah and an epipen -- sure hope I never need that as no one would find it in time to save me. :)

  18. LOL! I must admit to almost choking when I read your title and wondered if you'd cleaned yours because you'd bought a new one!! Yah....nope! :o)

Fun stuff! Haven't a clue what's in my purse as it hasn't moved from behind the couch since the day I left for China. Why is it everything I couldn't live without before baby doesn't even see the light of day now? Weird....and cool! It's all about Miss H, just as it should be!

  19. Bwa ha! Am loving this peek into your purses. Rocks, old hamburgers, 17 receipts. Cracking me up.

    Let's see, for the questions:

Kathy: I used to use Imitrex, but now the insurance company makes me use the generic version of it, Sumatriptan, which I swear is not as good as Imitrex. It does usually do the trick though, and doesn't knock me out at all, but I'm strangely resistant to anything that makes other people sleepy.

Tarcoulis: Hee! It's a purse hanger (similar to this one). If you go somewhere and can't hook your purse over the back of your chair (because it's round or something) but don't wamt to put it on the floor (maybe it's gross), this little thing hangs off the table and you can hook your purse on it.

  21. Off topic comment, here:

Had to come back and say thank you for the thumb gizmo you recommended. It arrived, fit great, and T enjoys wearing the thing. This is night 2. She actually asked to wear it. No sucking last night or tonight. YIPPEE!!!!

I bow to your cyber-shopping skills and pay them great homage.

    THANK YOU!

  22. I'm just jealous that you get to use a purse. So, the diaper bag days don't last forever? Sigh ....

  23. Oh, a purse accessory, of course! I don't have a purse (just big pockets)so would never have guessed about the purse hanger. Last week I wore a dress to an interview and had to dig through the girls' dress up box for something to hold my wallet keys and phone. I don't think they noticed the zoo animals which were cunningly turned toward my hip.

  24. Funny you should ask..just 2 days ago I was at work and I kept smelling "banana". I looked everywhere and couldn't find it. Ahhhh...imagine my surprise when I stuck my hand into the deep, deep dark of my purse and hit a wet, seeping, smelly banana!! Yuck. I had a little chat with the girls and hubby about my purse no longer being everyone elses catch all. I have no idea when or who put that banana in there!!!

  25. Did you ever watch "Let's Make a Deal" where the host goes to the audience and says, "I'll give 100 dollars to anyone who can give me an egg!" and everyone rushes to look in their purses? Sometimes when someone asks for some random crazy thing and I have it in my purse I think of that.

You just never know what you'll need!
