From freezer to oven to trashcan

This stuff...
IMG_0624LR

...was so wretched that I’m writing to Jennie-O tonight and telling them the tagline would be more accurate if instead of reading “From freezer to oven to perfect” it read “From freezer to oven to trashcan.”

Seriously. It was that bad. The girls absolutely refused to eat it. Ro gave it “998 thumbs down,” Ree gave it “one million thumbs down,” and then when I told them it was okay to toss it they RAN to trashcan. (I was laughing so hard that I didn’t think to grab the camera until after the offending blob had been dumped, but they were still enthusiastically shaking every drop into the rubbish.)IMG_0622LR

Bleh.

That’s when I told them to get dressed (well at least what they call dressed – their outfits are a mite creative) because we were heading to Baskin Robbins for something that actually tasted good.

Ahhhhhhhh. Our Wild and Reckless, Rainbow Sherbet, and Mint Chip cones were everything that dinner wasn’t.

Around the holidays, Trader Joes sells a really good and relatively healthy turkey breast and stuffing kit in the freezer - I hope they carry it this year and I will stock up so we can have it after the holidays are long gone! Let us know what Jennie0 says!

  2. Oh yah, ice cream for supper is a much better choice. Hope you hear something from JennieO but lets just hope it's not coupons for the offending stuff.

  3. Wow... That must have been really bad. I hope JennieO has a good response.
I also hope it didn't ruin turkey for the girls right before Thanksgiving.

    What made it so bad?

The company makes decent turkey link sausages that I like.

  5. Oh, Baskin Robbins. Clover and I had a Wild and Reckless Sherbet/Butter Pecan experience earlier today. It is the way to go!

  6. Great eye for style, so cute! Baskin Robbins sounds better then anything Jennie O (never liked the brand). That look on their face says it all.

  7. Ooh, Jenna, I didn't even think of that. I hope it didn't!

For the details, it was dry, chewy, really salty, and disturbingly "fake" tasting. Ro actually rubbed her tongue with the napkin after tasting it.

I'm glad you posted this. I almost bought one of these jennie-o turkeys a couple of weeks ago.

I immediately thought of the movie "A Christmas Story" when I read this post. All I could think of was after the turkey was ruined the dad yelling, "Eveybody upstairs, get dressed.......we are going OUT for dinner!"

Let us know if Jenny-o responds. Oh, and ice cream for dinner is awesome!

I love your posts. Love the girls faces when ditching Tom in the trash. Thanks for the heads up and to be honest, we dislike most of Jennie Os products. Always rubbery and salty to the taste. Laura in PA

  11. I love to cook and I can say that I've never found a fool proof turkey breast. Those things are hard to get right.

But Baskin Robbins? Now that's perfect EVERY SINGLE TIME. Good choice.

  12. I have a recipe book and one of the recipes was a salmon loaf. Since my kids actually LIKE fish, I decided to make it. HORRIBLE!! I couldn't eat it and I sure wasn't going to make them eat it either!

They've never let me forget that horrible episode either....

    Lesson learned.

  14. Maybe you got ahold of a bad one or cooked it too long. I've used these Jennie O's before and they are always good. I do like the one with the bone in, so maybe by doing the bone out, it is more "processed."
