We heart Ikea

We spent Friday Fun Night at Ikea – Ro and Ree’s most favorite store in the world (rating even higher than heavyweight Z Gallery). They’d be pretty happy if we could just live in Ikea.

First stop is SmÃ¥land, where you sign your kiddos in, they give you a pager, and you go shop for 45 minutes. Yeah that’s genius:SAMSUNGSAMSUNG

And then they have an entire warehouse of tiny little “houses” and intriguing nooks and crannies to show off all of their decorations and furniture. Ro and Ree pretend they’re living in each house and are a bit loud when we move them along.SAMSUNGSAMSUNGSAMSUNG

Luckily there’s a tiny market at the checkout that serves dollar cones or I’m not sure we would have convinced the girls to leave.SAMSUNG

Oh, and yes that is our cart, full of inexpensive pink flower lights that will soon be hung in Ro and Ree’s room. (I might even take a pic and share it here. Heh.) We also got the coolest wire curtain hangers, which will soon be installed in the playroom and displaying Ro and Ree’s priceless artwork. (I’ll most likely take a pic of that too...)

Sooooo, any other Ikea fanatics out there?

I LOVE IKEA!!!! The nearest one is about 3 hours away, they signed a contract years ago to build one here in San Antonio but something happened and it fell through. :( I can't go near an ikea with out stopping.

  2. Oh yes, our house could feature in one of their brochures, so much stuff do we have from Ikea. The pc on which I'm reading your story stands in a Ikea closet, bookcases are Billy etc. etc.

The stores look alike all over the world I see - I could easily step into my branch in Barendrecht, Holland (http://www.ikea.com/nl/nl/store/barendrecht/indexPage) and find an exact replica of that modelroom in which Ree and Ro play in the picture! We have Smaland here too - but there's no 45 minute limit. Not that you can leave them there for hours, but 45 minutes does seem very short. And of course the icecreams are a hit here too :). The kids can make them theirselves here - you put the cone in a holder, push the button and the ice pours in.

  5. Sadly I don't have an Ikea near me. The closest one is 2 1/2 hours from here.

  6. We used to drive 5 hours ONE WAY to go to IKEA and then drive home the same day.
Now we have one 35 min from my house :D
    I'm heading there this morning...

  7. Our entire home is furnished from IKEA, I am currently sitting on their sofa, my coffee is on the IKEA coffee table (it was £1.99 in a sale!)

I sometimes wish we shopped somewhere fancier, but the prices are so good we always end up back at IKEA when we need something new.

  8. So funny! Our twin girls, about 6 months younger than Ro and Ree, do exactly the same thing at IKEA! Exactly! We go on rainy days and spend whole afternoons.

  9. We LOVE Ikea! I used to shop there while living in Europe all the time, so imagine how happy I was when they opened one in the Cincinnati area a few years ago.

  11. The Ikea wire curtain hangers is an excellent way to display art. I even had one installed in my office and I hung all my black and white photos from China there. Very cool. I just moved from my office to a home office, so I think I'll put it in the upstairs hallway now!

  14. Funny thing is WE went to Ikea (Charlotte NC) last night, too :) And, one of the main things on my list was the wire thingy that you can add clips to for hanging pics/artwork. WHERE did you find it? And do you purchase the clips seperately? I looked in the frame dept, and no luck. HELP! :)

  15. Hi Donna, it was the Dignitet line, in the curtain rod section, and the corner pieces and wires were in one package and the clips were in another (24 pieces in each package). My folks are coming over tonight to help me hang them all --can't wait!

  18. We had the cable and clips at our last house to hang artwork, be sure they are anchored really well because there is a lot of torque on those babies. Took some heavy duty anchors to keeps them from pulling out of the walls but then they were awesome. (And yeah, they stayed with the house when we left)
