Funny day today. I don’t even think we got in the water at all. The hotel has a guest volunteer program at the local animal shelter and the girls have been looking forward to being official animal cuddlers all week. So that was kind of the main event today.
Neat program.
We also had some incredible ahi poke tacos (I think I could live on that stuff), fed the hotel swans and koi (who by now recognize us and squawk loudly if we attempt to sneak past them without doling out some Cheerios), rode a train and fed some island pigs, and went to a luau (great show, not-so-great food).
We want to make the trip up to Hanalei Bay, but the girls have been fighting so much in the car that we’re just not sure we’d all survive the drive. Today’s drive-time meltdown was a chorus of outraged whine/screams saying “She’s looking at me!” Gah!!! Yeah they’re adorable, but it’s not all hugging and dancing in the halls. These girls are capable of vehement sibling warfare, particularly any time we’re in a moving vehicle*. Anyhow, we’ll see about Hanalei…
*This statement no doubt makes my parents scream with laughter and break into the jubilant “it’s payback time” dance.
LOL "she's looking at me", my girls say this... also whilst fighting in the car.
ReplyDeleteHave you gotten the "she's breathing my air" one yet? Oh man!!
DeleteOh my, "she's breathing my air." Where in the world did that come from? That is funny (although I imagine only to an outsider reading a blog).
DeleteOh, I get the "he's looking out my window"!
DeleteSeriously?? Your in the 3rd row back and he is in the middle row! HOW??
No I havent heard that yet, that's a good one :)
DeleteThat even happens between G (14) and L (5)! Animals are cute and I love the jewelry in the pics.
ReplyDeleteSharon, the animals were SO sweet. They loved the attention. The orange tabby reminded us all of our little Mango kitty who never came home one night years ago.
DeleteJust thinkin' what a nice home the four of you could provide for a kitten/cat . . .
ReplyDeleteI think the girls and that orange tabby were thinking the same thing. :-)
Deleteyep-- you should get a dog-- come on!!! how much fun would that be!!!
ReplyDeletewith 6 kiddos-- seat placement is everything-- 1 thing that DOES work in the car is listening to books on CD-- they are so intent on listening to the CD that they don't bother each other OR ask me a million questions...
some books they might like that my 6 year old loves: "Ivy and Bean" Series and Cowgirl Kate and Cocoa series and "Double Trouble" Series (about twins!!!)
love Hawaii-- so jealous of warm weather:)
Hey that's a great idea! We haven't tried books on CD yet. Thanks!!
DeleteI seem to remember a certain lady bringing a wooded spoon in the car when you and your brother were with her! Marlayna
ReplyDeleteMarlayna, would you believe we were talking about just that last night on the drive home from the luau!
Deletehere are some of our favs on CD:(all from the library)
ReplyDeleteThe Magic Treehouse series by Mary Pope Osborne (there are over 40 of them--- you'll never run out)
The A-Z mysteries by Ron Roy
Mrs. Piggle Wiggle books-- oh these are soooooooooooo much fun-- hard to find on CD-- read the books though!!!
Charlotte's Web and anything by E.B White
also-- anything by Kate DiCamillo- the mercy watson books-- SO funny! The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane, THe Tale of Desperaux.. love books:)
Fun, thanks!
DeleteIf you do make it to Hanalei, be sure to stop off at Banana Joes for some one of their frozen treats. I think they have some sort of pineapple ice cream that they make without any milk.
ReplyDeleteAlright we made it and the girls had Shave Ice thingees. They loved them.
DeleteLOL! Why is it parents take such glee in us receiving a taste of what we dolled out to them? Parents! ;o)
ReplyDeleteNot sure if it will helps at all with the squabbles you're dealing with but a friend of mine who had 6 kids had a neat trick. She kept dice....everywhere! Each child had a number in birth order. If their was a decision to be made she rolled the dice and that person chose.
Could you use something similar with odd/even numbers? I.e. One gal is odd and the other even. If there is a decision to be made (if some of the squabbles are about what is done next) could this help out? Just a thought. Sibling squabbles are awful....even though you and I (as near perfect as we are **wink wink**) may have squabbled occasionally with our siblings! :o) (OK Wela, you can stop laughing now. I can hear you!! :o)
Aside from the squabbles the day looks to have been a rousing success! What a neat program for the hotel/animal shelter to share!
Sorry me...one more time. Love the option you have to Reply to comments and have them post here. Is that a setting I can change on my blog too?
ReplyDeleteOK - done pestering you. Please enjoy the sun!
Oh ya...one more pester. Love the pics of TubaDad but calling out for more pics of Mommy too!
Here's how you make it so you can reply to comments (I just figured it out yesterday, you have sharp eyes my friend):
DeleteGo into Blogger, go to Settings / Posts and comments, then choose Comment Location "Embedded", then go to Settings / Other, and set Blog Comment Feed to "Full" and Per-Post Comment Feeds to "Full". Then save settings and the "Reply" option should show up after each blog comment after you refresh. As far as I know the replies only show up on your blog and aren't emailed to the poster.
Aloha!
Aloha!
Cool!! It worked! Thanks!!
DeleteAnd you're right, the comments are only posted here and not mailed the to original poster. It's fun to come back and read your comments!
Thanks for the tip!!
Have you gotten, "she's breathing my air!" yet?
ReplyDeleteAhh, little girls. Mine are 2 years apart. 98% of the time they're best friends and inseparable. The other 2% of the time, they could reduce Chuck Norris to a terrified, whimpering puddle of goo.
*meant to say, have you REALLY gotten "she's breathing my air!" yet?
ReplyDeleteEven my banshees haven't come out with that one yet. Though I did overhear, "her foot's in the air on my side."
Oh yeah, we've really gotten that one. Have to admit I was a little stunned for a second.
DeleteAmen sister!
ReplyDeleteThe "I don't like how she's looking at me" comments just kill me.
That tree you have a photo of is a Norfolk Island Pine. It only grows in tropical places like Hawaii. When living there some 35 years ago, we bought one for a christmas tree. It was alive. Some months later we gave it to my Dad and Mom who retired on Oahu (Mililani Town) and he planted it in their yard. It got quite big since it grows 12 months a year. When it got to 60 feet, he cut it down. It was taking over their yard. But it is a pretty very symetrical tree. Our grand daughter is Madi and she is from the Hunan province (Town of YiYang). She just turned 6 so she is about the same age as Ro and Ree. She is already on a fast track to gifted and talented even though she is only in Kindergarten. These asians are very smart girls. Love your pictures. We vacation in Princeville every year for 6 weeks and love it. She lives in Frederick MD. Where is your home?
