We like to take night walks. Just before bedtime or maybe a smidge past it. Sometimes the girls are in pajamas, sometimes they tote a horde of stuffed animals along for company. So when my little bro (Uncle Bobby) flew into town, we fed him a little, finished up homework, then headed out the door on one of our fave paths. I brought along the camera because I’m supposed to be working on low-light/high ISO pics this week, and an 8pm walk definitely qualified. I tried to edit the pics so they didn’t scream low-light anymore.
PS: These pics were taken from 8:06pm to 8:37pm. I processed/brightened them in Lightroom because they were a little dark and grainy. I also pulled the ones with Uncle Bobby into PS and added a couple of Florabella actions at low opacity. They were all taken with the D300 and 17-55mm lens, ISO 1000 at the beginning of the walk and up to ISO 2000 near the end of the bunnyball game. Here’s a before and after (because I always like to see how folks edit things):
Cheers!
These are great. Where in northern CA do you live that you have mountains in your backyard? The foliage along the paths you walk is always so beautiful and the backdrop of mountains is incredible.
ReplyDeleteAw, thanks! That's the Diablo Range that you see in most of our outdoor pics. I think in the Uncle Bobby pic that was just a little local hill and not part of the range.
DeleteGreat editing......I bought Lightroom but haven't even had time to open it! Don't you just love the sky as it is getting dark....it's so cool to be able to edit pics so it looks as good as what we are seeing. Did you understand what I'm trying to say????
ReplyDeleteVal, YES!!!! Totally understand, and that's exactly what I'm thinking as I edit pics. I want them to look like what my eyes see.
DeleteLightroom is really nice. I had it sitting on a shelf for years before a friend (Hi D2!) talked me into actually using it. Now I can't live without it. I made a bunch of my own presets so most pics can be edited with one-click (and cropping).
Great pics but even more....what fun!! Bunny ball looks like a blast! Especially when Uncle Bobby and TD are there to help with the slam dunks! :o)
ReplyDeleteI'm going to pack my camera and review the stuff Lisa taught me in the fall. Hoping to improve my DSLR skills!
Catherine, we can have our own mini photography shoots and both play around with what Lisa taught us! It'll be awesome.
DeleteI saw these on the group but love to see them larger like this!!! Very nice looks like a fun evening!
ReplyDeleteHey Teri! Thanks for visiting. I'm having so much fun with our class.
DeleteWe have those same bunnies from Build A Bear! We call ours Daisy Bunny. Abby just loves descriptive names!
ReplyDeleteYep, they're Build a Bunnies, I guess. ;-) The girls got them for bday presents from a friend and just love them.
DeleteHow beautiful! I'm working on learning to use my camera the way it deserves, but it is a bit of a process... And I love the idea of bedtime walks. That sounds positively delightful.
ReplyDeleteBlythe, we took another one tonight. It was in the mid nineties all day and too hot to do anything. But once the sun started to set the temp was perfection!
DeleteThe camera stuff is so fun. Having a ball learning new stuff with it.
White Men can jump!
ReplyDeleteOh yeah!!!
DeleteHow much fun! Glad you get to see your brother! Man, your hubbby looks like he should be in the NBA! BTW, I get to talk to Austin on the phone on Mother's Day for 40 minutes!!!
ReplyDeleteLaurel, that is AWESOME!!!! Best Mother's Day present ever.
DeleteAdorable bunnyball pictures!
ReplyDeletemmmmm uncle Bobby. :-) He's my favorite too. HA HA HA
ReplyDeleteI love the pic of the girls both jumping in the air. That's a pretty cool shot in my view!
