The girls have been dying to shoot bows and arrows after seeing the movie Brave. We got them two toy archery sets and they’ve held up pretty well so far to the twinbuse and have also come in very handy for shooing away the pesky squirrel that keeps knocking down our bird feeder.
But today was the big day. They got to have a real archery lesson, from a real instructor, using REAL bows and targets, which they actually managed to hit. Oh the thrill.
Their instructor was involved with Pixar and the movie Brave, and if you look closely on the wall you’ll see one of the fabric painted targets that was used at the Brave premier party. Ro recognized it the second we walked in.
Tomorrow’s swimming, then Wednesday is another horseback riding lesson. These little beauties are fierce!
PS1: Thanks to Becky for the recommendation of the archery place – we loved the instructor.
PS2: I haven’t put up any Hawaii pics yet – just need a little help from my resident tech guy first. Soon...
PS3: Ree now has two full-grown teeth behind her bottom baby teeth, just like Ro did. Unlike her sister, however, she’s not at all interested in a trip to the dentist to remove those non-budging baby teeth.
Future Olympians!
ReplyDeleteHow fun! I've always loved archery (at least the version we were able to do once a year in PE class) and of course the girls want to be just like Merida (they've already got the unruly hair). Eventually I'll have to arrange for a class for the whole family.
ReplyDeletemy daughter is saving up for her first bow-- (she's 6.5) and our son is getting a compound bow (he's 7.5) LOVE it!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteWhat fun!! WOW - A professional Brave instructor too! Oh the joy! Can the girls wear their Brave attire to the next lesson?
ReplyDeletePhew - your girlies keep you hopping! :o) Enjoy swimming and horse back riding!
Looking forward to Hawaii pics when your tech guy has time to help.
Given the climate after the Aurora , CO massacre I probably would change the title of this blog entry. I read you daily and winced when I saw the title.
ReplyDeleteHm, didn't even think of that and you're right, changing it right now to be more Merida-focused.
DeleteSeriously? People get way too sensitive. You have a wonderful blog and beautiful family. What happened in CO, is of course, a tragedy beyond belief, but you just keep posting. I think you are a fantastic writer & I keep your famiy in my prayers. Cheers:)
ReplyDeleteThanks, you're sweet, and thank you for the prayers!!!
DeleteIn this case I had no problem changing the post title since the comment was polite and not mean-spririted at all. The anon comments that are meant to annoy or harrass me or other readers don't even get a second look before they're deleted.
One of the many things I love about you. . . . it makes so much sense to just delete mean comments and never acknowledge them. It makes me crazy when bloggers decide to "call out" those who criticize them.
DeleteThank you changing the blog title. I was the anon who wrote that response. I don't think anyone can be overly sensitive to a massacre that killed 12 innocent people. M3's blog is read internationally and has a huge following so she often--unwittingly--sets the stage for how the rest of us think about things.
ReplyDeleteWow--very impressive!
ReplyDeleteThat is cool, like really really cool. Lily just saw this post and thinks she wants to try it too. Yeah not so fast.....she probably put her own eye out LOL
ReplyDeleteWTG girls, you were awesome.
Guy just bought our girls a play archery set. I'm sure they'd love a real lesson. How cool that you got to work with one of THE guys from the movie. Awesome!
ReplyDeleteYou should have them watch archery at the olympics! I didn't know archery was a team event as well as individual.

ReplyDeleteK and M are desperate to take archery lessons. Kenna is even willing to stop picking at her nails if it means she can just shoot a bow and arrow.
ReplyDeleteHow fun that your instructor was involved with "Brave." The 2020 Olympics may just have a whole new US Team of young women who were inspired by seeing the movie.
wow. I have never heard of archery lessons for kids. Is this group thing or only individual?
ReplyDeleteWe did private lessons with two kiddos, so we had a one-hour time slot and the instructor switched between the girls every 3 arrows, which was nice because it gave the girls time to rest. I think with one kiddo you'd have a 30 min time slot. This place does indiv/group/or family lessons.
Deletewow thanks!
