One of *my* favorite things about this summer is that it’s the girls’ job to empty and load the dishwasher. Wheeeeee! They’re great at it too. After the first couple of times, they did say “Agaiiiiiiiiin?” and I laughed and said “Oh babes I hate to tell you but it happens every day...!”
TubaDad was foraging around at Fry’s Electronics last night (I think he likes that store as much as I like Target) and discovered a milk-chocolate version of our new sea-salt love. So he brought both home and set up a taste-test for us. Seriously – does he know how to make us smile or what?
The dark chocolate won by a unanimous vote, by the way. It is just scrumptious, and that’s coming from a house with three milk-chocolate-loving girls.
We don’t have the Ro and Ree in any summer camps, at their request, but they are taking swimming lessons, and will start horseback riding lessons and archery lessons** this week. In the meantime, they are enjoying the heck out of the backyard, the art table, the playroom, and their bottomless dress-up box:
Hope your summer is a good one!
** PS: Curious to know if everyone’s seen Brave yet? Did your kiddos like it? Did you? Was anyone scared? Our girls ADORED the movie (hence the archery lessons – thanks Becky for the recommendation!), have seen it twice already and CANNOT wait for the dvd (yikes, could be a while, right?). I really liked it and loved the messages in the movie, although I do think the bear fight scenes could scare the pants off some kids.
If you don't mind me asking why did the girls decide to not go to summer camp? Next year my son will be old enough to go to camp, but he has special needs so I have to decide by February to put applications in. I have such wonderful memories of summer camp as a child.
ReplyDeleteThey think camp boxes them in too much. They don't like that most camps are every day for a week with no flexibility to have a PJ day or lounge in the pool or backyard whenever you want. Lessons that we schedule when they want seem to be more their style for now. There is a horse camp coming up that I would LOVE for them to do. We'll see what they think after riding lessons tomorrow.
DeleteI took my 4 year old after my older son and daughter in law said it was not that scary. She wanted to leave for about 30 minutes in the middle but I just covered her eyes and ears. As we were walking out of the theatre she said she wanted to go see it again!
ReplyDeleteKelly nearly peed her pants in fright. Sara was OK with it, and tried to be brave sitting next to Daddy. It was pretty violent for me! But many of their friends adored it. It was very well done. I laughed my butt off through the men/fighting scenes. Because the violence was with bears, I thought it was OK for kids, but I don't see Sara & Kelly putting it on their Xmas list.
ReplyDeleteour kids loved it (ages 8 to 5)
ReplyDeleteTate went to see it with Liza and Sol, Tiff and Me. I was worried she would be scared and have nightmares... It was cute the way Liza tried to cover Tate's eye when the bear fight was happening. She did like the show but is still a wimp for any movie with anything scary.
ReplyDeleteLove that you are having a great summer. Okay, Maylin cried through Brave. She was so worried that the mom would die and that she wouldn't be a mom again. She sat on my lap and cried the whole time. She says she liked it though.
ReplyDeleteWe have seen it twice and love it. Can't wait for the DVD either. I love the message in. Also love the fact that the "Princess" wasn't saved by a "Prince" and that there was a mother and a father! Archery lessons would be so fun!
ReplyDeleteWe enjoyed brave. I loved it that we finally have a princess that can save herself ;)
ReplyDeleteI agree that the bear scene could be very scary for younger or sensitive kiddos.
I also bought both the milk and dark chocolate sea salt soiree flavors!! You inspired me to want to try the dark chocolate ones from your previous mention of them! I am a total milk chocolate loving person as well! I agree that hands down the DARK CHOCOLATE ones WON! Something about the way the dark chocolate and the sea salt blends! yum! I just have a hard time finding them in stock in any stores! I think they are becoming popular! :)
ReplyDeleteWe just saw it yesterday and Eva age 4 was scared in a couple of parts and buried her head on my shoulder. During the "scary" scenes the music seemed SO LOUD which added to her fear, but if you ask her she loved it! :o)
ReplyDeleteI thought there were some seriously scary moments! My sweet pea spent most of the movie between my lap and the floor, where she peeked through the seats in front of her. I wasn't sure what she'd say about it, but as we were walking out of the theatre, she said "Wow, Mom, that was such a great movie, wasn't it?" Too funny, now we have an archery set that we got at Bass Pro Shop" The arrows are really suction cups, and she loves shooting at a target she drew on our patio door with window markers!
ReplyDeleteWe went to see "Brave" with several 8 year olds and a few brought their 4, 5, and 6 year old sisters. The 8 year olds were not scared but the 6 and under ones were. Love the photos of your gorgeous kitchen in the background. Love the photos of the girls with their sparkling eyes - did you get a new lens too - do you mind sharing which lens you are using? Assuming you are not using a reflector?
ReplyDeleteHmmm...I have 2 bars of the Milk Chocolate version but the only dark chocolate one I bought I gave away. Might mean another trip to Salsaville? Oh yah, that and I forgot to look for the Jif Silk when we stopped at the grocery store last Saturday afternoon. Duh! Truly, another trip (ASAP!) must be needed, right?? :o)
ReplyDeleteSophie was terrified at the bear scenes. I had read about them online before we went and mentioned it, so she just hid her face. She did sob a bit at the end when she didn't think the mother was going to turn back from being a bear.
ReplyDeleteAs for archery, my 13yo DD is taking it this summer, thanks to the Hunger Games! And yes, now Sophie is running around the house pretending that she is shooting a bow and arrow too. But here in NH, I think she has to be 8 to take lessons!
I took my two girls (ages 15 and 6) to see it and they both LOVED it!
ReplyDeleteYea, I LOVED the movie, HATED the bear scene. Just don't think it needed to be quite so "real".
ReplyDeleteWe loved Brave! It didn't scare Kenna and Michal at all but I can see how it would be scary for a little one. I appreciated that for once a princess had a mother! That was a nice change.
ReplyDeleteWhere did you find archery lessons? My duo would love that.
My girls (9 and 11) loved the movie. In fact, leaving the theater I was asked to buy it when it comes out on DVD.
ReplyDeleteTotally off topic . . . What "pocket camera" do you use?
ReplyDeleteThanks, Gail (Sonoma)
