We’re heading to China over the holidays, and it’s going to be COLD (yes all caps) – the average high in Beijing for December is 38°. Brrr. So I thought I’d just pop online and buy a few pairs of tall fleece pajamas for those cold nights. Easy peasy, right? Yeah... totally failed in that quest. Couldn’t find a single pair.
Now I’m not a giant, but for reason standard fleece pajamas are about 3” too short in the legs and arms. Annoying. And chilly.
So, can anyone point me to a company that makes “normal” adult fleece pajamas in tall sizes? (By normal I mean separate bottoms and top, not those weird footed zippered things that emulate baby pajamas.) Hoping hoping hoping...
And because I know my family gets irked by posts without any pictures, here’s a festive little snap I took last night when my mom stopped by to measure PanPan for his Christmas costume. (You know I’m not even kidding, right?)
Kohl's or Target? I got mine at Target and they are too long. I'm 5'5.
ReplyDeleteThanks, I'll check them out - I haven't tried the Kohl's yet. It's across the street from the mall I like to go to, so I always forget about it.
DeleteI've heard the Silks are simply the BEST in warmth and comfort:

Hopefully you will find something to fit, i'm petite. and wide, lately, i'm not hard to fit.
Can't wait to see pan pan's holiday duds. who is taking care of him while you are gone?
My friend Maggie, petsitter extraordinaire. :-) We just move his cage to her house, he thinks he's on vacation.
DeleteI would go with therma underwear that can be bought through Lands End. 38 is cold and you are going to need something warm.
ReplyDeleteThose are cute dresses. May I ask where you bought them, would love to get some for my twins too.
ReplyDeleteThanks
They're from Sears of all places. We searched and searched for santa dresses online and this was the only one Ree liked. Went to pick it up and Ro saw the green one and wouldn't put it down. They still have them in stock in stores and online. If you go to sears.com and search for "santa dress" you'll see the red and green versions in a bunch of different sizes (baby, toddler, big kid).
DeleteThanks so much.
DeleteI'm going over there now.
:-)
If you can't find the sizes you want in store, you can order them online and choose local store pickup (free).
DeleteChina?! Ok, now you have my attention! This is the 1st time you've mentioned the trip on the blog, right? So many questions! Are the girls going? All the grandparents? Any other folks from your China travel group? Are Ro & Ree freaking out with excitement, if they are indeed going? What all things do you have planned for the trip? Please! Fill us in!
ReplyDeleteAww, you know you want some foot jammies, just like Ralphie's "Pink Nightmare!" Please tell me you watch A Christmas Story every year! :)
Hi MaLeah! We're all so excited. We're going on a heritage trip sponsored by our agency and BLAS. So we'll be with a huge group of other adoptive families (none from our original travel group, but at least one other cool family that know) and will travel to four cities. The girls are beside themselves and in particular really looking forward to the Great Wall and holding a panda (we go to a big panda reserve). We're taking my brother (Uncle Bobby to the girls) and his wife on this one.
DeleteI've 5'9" and I've had some success at Target in past years, not too sure about this year. I've also bought fleece pjs at places like TJ Maxx and Marshalls where they have a bunch of different brands so that might work too :)
ReplyDeleteGood luck with the 38! Where I live it gets to -40 at least a couple times each winter... :)
I love LLBean for all things fleece. Can't go wrong: Free shipping and everything is guaranteed!
ReplyDeleteHope some of the tips above will help you find the longer pj pants. Sorry, no help here as I like to hope south of the border to shop and since I'm hot at night cannot sleep in fleece. Hope you find something!
ReplyDeleteSO excited about your upcoming trip!! What fun!!!
Adorable Christmas dresses!! And the boots are the perfect addition!
Hmmm...does Pan Pan get a snowy cape too. Cannot wait to see WelaWear Pan Pan style!!!
I second L.L. Bean. The median temp is Maine (where L.L. Bean is based) in December is about the same. L.L. Bean has a wide array of fleece and flannel (as well as long underwear) and they have the best return policy ever.
ReplyDeleteTry the Vermont Country Store. I just ordered pjs from them. They have a pretty big selection.
ReplyDeleteI was in China for all of January in the 1970s after relations opened up and it was cold. But I would concentrate on cold weather wear for outside your bed where you would wear your pjs. Gloves/mittens/warm socks/good shoes/warm pants and shirts, etc. are a must.
I have the same problem with PJs! Try the Sleep Sense brand from Dillards, or the Old Navy separates.
ReplyDeleteBuy the cheap fleece PJ's at Target and get your mom to make you some Wella Wear Fleece one of a kind PJ's.... :)
ReplyDeleteAngie H
Just get some tall fleece sweatpants!! (I think Lands end has fleece pants that are available in tall)
ReplyDeleteWOW, where did you get those dresses that the girls are wearing. Gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteYvonne in Scotland
Hi Yvonne, They're from Sears of all places. We searched and searched for santa dresses online and this was the only one Ree liked. Went to pick it up and Ro saw the green one and wouldn't put it down. They still have them in stock in stores and online (but I'm guessing it's US only?). If you go to sears.com and search for "santa dress" you'll see the red and green versions in a bunch of different sizes (baby, toddler, big kid).
DeleteGood luck with the PJ hunt and have a great trip to China. How exciting!
ReplyDeleteM.
Do you have Giant Tiger in the US? I do here in Canada and they have some really cool fleece separates along with those weird footy baby looking pyjamas. They are so warm too. Even on -13 degree Fahrenheit nights. Hope you find some! :)
ReplyDeleteI know I have bought fleece pj pants at Old Navy before, I'm 5'9" and they fit me. Perhaps Old Navy Canada sells different pj's compared to the US Old Navy!?
ReplyDeleteHave you tried the Big Dogs store online?
ReplyDeleteM3 - go to the LLBean site.
ReplyDeleteLand's End
ReplyDeleteHave a great time! We went to Beijing in January. Was so cold at the great wall! I am a huge cuddle duds fan. Such soft and comfortable long underwear!
ReplyDeleteREI or Hanna Andersson has some clothes for grownups that would work. :)
ReplyDeleteHave a great trip to China! Can't wait to read about the adventures of Ro and Ree!
Check online at kohls. I don't find them in the store often, but online they have them!
ReplyDeleteLands End. www.landsend.com
ReplyDeleteActually I think I just saw some a the Jockey Outlet at the Outlet mall today. May want to check!http://www.jockey.com/Catalog/Product/sherpa-pant
ReplyDeletehttp://www.jockey.com/Catalog/Product/sherpa-hoodie
I was going to say place a custom order with Wela Wear...
ReplyDeletelands end for fleece jammies that are long. I'm 5'8 and they always fit fine on me.
ReplyDeleteALSO, having been to Bejing in Dec, get yourself some of the silk long johns that you wear under your regular clothes. LL Bean. You will thank me when you're standing in the Forbidden City for an hour and it's freezing and snowing. been there, done that. I'm pretty sure they make kid sizes as well. It is freaking cold in Bejing in Dec. Bundle up! And have the best time!!
I live in Beijing! It's cold outside, but warm inside...I wouldn't worry about it. (FYI right now I am wearing my cotton PJs and a fleecy robe, it's 11:15pm) :D
ReplyDeleteIf you haven't left yet, I have a tip for you. We have two kiddos from China and one lived there until she was 18 years old. She goes back each year for a visit. She has the THICKEST and WARMEST "leggings'/"long underwear" (????) Talk to your guide (if they're from the north) about shopping for these very warm undergarments. Our Yitong wears them under her pants. She took my oldest bio to China about 3 years ago, for a month during the winter in Jilin Province (NE of Beijing) and she brought about 3 pair back. They are NOTHING like what we have in the states and they are super duper warm. Perfect for a California girl like yourself. AND, unlike me, you are small enough that you could shop for yourself in Chinese stores. Seriously, ask your guide; you'll be glad you did.
