It’s interesting to see which things I completely forgot about and what stuck forever in the ole memory banks.
I printed out a few Wizard of Oz bingo cards to play with during the movie. (Ro won the first bingo).
Classic movie. Still great after all these decades. Hard to believe it was made in 1939!

Fun Wizard of Oz Trivia:
- The horses in Emerald City palace were colored with Jell-O crystals. The relevant scenes had to be shot quickly, before the horses started to lick it off.
- The film started shooting on October 13, 1938 and was completed on March 16, 1939 at a then-unheard-of cost of $2,777,000. It earned only $3,000,000 on its initial release.
- The ruby slippers were silver (like in the book) until MGM chief Louis B. Mayer realized that the Technicolor production would benefit from the slippers being colored.
- In 2007, the American Film Institute ranked this as the #10 Greatest Movie of All Time.
i've been just sitting here at my computer, like old faithful the dog, WAITING for the the new blog to FINALLY post.

I have always had mixed feelings about the movie! Love how all her family is there when she walks up . The witch terrified me along with her flying monkies. The mosaic score is fantastic.
ReplyDeleteI love this movie, but have not shown it to Marin yet. He's terrified of "the green lady" (a witch) that was a Halloween decoration in our local hardware store. He would really flip out to see a "green lady" that meant harm to a dog! Ha!
ReplyDeleteMy Maddie cried at the end of this movie every time she watched it. She was upset when she woke up because she thought she was never going to see her friends again.
ReplyDeleteWe would explain it over and over that they were still the scarecrow, tin man and so forth but she just couldn't get it. We loved Oz. It was awesome.
Saw the new OZ movie in 3D and it is wonderful!!! I can't wait for it to come out on DVD/Blueray. I will be buying it. I am sure your family will love it.
ReplyDeleteHi I have followed your blog for years. I had some additional questions about the China tour. We are going this summer with CCAI. I tried to use the email link but I couldn't get it to work. I think my settings are messed up.
ReplyDeleteCan you email me at stefgo13@yahoo.com
Thanks!!
Hi M3!! Did you guys go to see it yet? We are going on Saturday morning and can't wait. Saw a preview at CA Adventure and it was a 4D movie so wind and rain and lightening! We also got to see the OZ Hot Air Balloon so Miss S is giving it a thumbs up and said she wants to see it! Hard to believe it took us this long to get 4 people's schedules together! XOXO! Kristina
ReplyDeleteI remember the flying monkeys being scary!
