How’s your Christmassing going?

We had that one evening of decorating on Monday and that was it. The girls were all gung-ho to get out the holiday boxes and decorate our entryway and our little Christmas tree (they still refuse to get a bigger one). They worked hard for about an hour before bedtime. But since then -- nothing.

TubaDad left on a business trip (in the U.S. this time, the one to Bangkok was cancelled as he was leaving for the airport because it was unsafe), we got busy, the furnace broke in the middle of a freezing spell, and... well... the tree has been left with only a few ornaments hung at kid height, no one has bothered to find the star, and it hasn’t even been straightened after being pulled from its box.

Eh. Maybe we’ll do more this weekend. Or maybe not! Honestly, if we dragged the rest of the boxes into the garage and called it good enough who would complain? Certainly not the happy kiddos who think everything looks great.

Aside from the madness in shopping centers, which has a life of its own, I just do not see the same level of enthusiasm at home...for any holiday this year. I hear this from all of my friends. They enjoy the food and celebration with friends and family, but not all the decorating. Maybe we are back to the simple pleasures, which is fine by me.

    1. Simple is fine by me too!! And I just did all the girls' shopping online last night, so I haven't set foot in a mall yet... Winning!

  2. A friend asked me what I wanted out of our last Christmas in our house before we move, and I said, "I want to get up to Chicago, because it's stunning at the holidays. I want Greg's parents to come. I want to spend Xmas in our house. That's about it." And we agreed that sounded pretty great. Simpler is better this year, not because we're overwhelmed, but because we're just choosing it.

  3. You are so far ahead of me in decorating for the holidays that you should feel great about where you are! Currently I have a combo of Halloween, Thanksgiving and Hannukah decorations up. And who knows at this point if they will come down or stay up when I finally put up the Christmas decorations :)

Actually, the tree looks great - as in much-loved.

Your girls are so simple. Why don't they want a bigger tree?

    1. They say "we just like it!" Funny girls. Next year they want to go cut down a tree in the mtns though, and I'm thinking that's a good thing to do with Wela and BobBob.

  6. The little tree looks perfect with its bright lights... We moved into our house a month ago, so our decorating has been a bit lax this year, but the kids are thrilled with their tree and outside lights so who am I to rain on their parade?
