Happy New Year and hello snow!

We decided at the last minute to head to the cabin and greet the new year in Tahoe. There was just enough snow to make the girls happy with snowball fights, sledding, and lumpy snowman building, but not too much to make life hard for the parents.

New Year’s Eve was fun. Skiing at Sierra Ski Ranch during the day, a delish steak dinner near the casinos, and back in the warm cabin in our PJs watching a movie and eating mint chip ice cream by 8pm.

It was a warm, beautiful day for skiing. Not much snow at the resorts, but plenty for our bunny hillers. We started off with puffy coats, hats, gloves, the works. A few runs in we had stripped off everything we legally could and stuffed it all in a locker. Ahhh, much better.

The girls did a good job skiing – they’re getting more confident each time down the hill and will probably pass TubaDad up next year. That magic-carpet mountain-escalator thing they have now sure is easier than those sadistic tow ropes and t-bars they had when I was a kid.

Sledding was funny, they’d bomb down the tiny hill by our cabin screaming and laughing the whole way, flip over the short edge and drop into the street, landing on their feet and throwing hands in the air with a proper gymnastics flourish.

Happy New Year, it will be fun to see what 2014 holds for all of us.

PS: I’m curious, was everyone else still awake and partying at midnight on New Year’s Eve?

    1. Happy 2014! Unexpected fireworks next door probably would have freaked me out. Now that I think about it though, we did get woken up by coyotes (at least that's what I think they were).

    1. Happy new year!!

And thanks, I just slipped that one in there. Our little California chihuahua was shivering and shivering, so we stopped by the Tahoe pet store and bought him some snow duds. It was hilarious (always a bonus!) plus got him out in the snow.

  4. Happy New Year!! What a great place for family time your cabin is!!

We rang in the new year with 3 other families and then headed to bed shortly after. The celebrations began for the kiddos early (too early from the adults perspectives) with a yummy breakfast together. It's a 4 family sleepover a a great time was had by all!

  5. I was shoveling 6" of snow off the driveway yesterday, and I thought, "Ah, my friends in California have it good." And then I thought wait, I'll bet M3 is in Tahoe. Sledding snow is more fun than driveway snow.

  6. Yep! The 3 of us were up! We rang in the New Year with fireworks on the beach, then got a crazy idea to drive 7 1/2 more hours to do a 1 day visit to Disney World. Because, why not?! Then, we did a 17 hour day at Disney & a 10 hour drive home (still driving) today! Marin hung like a champ with only a 45 min nap in the stroller! He's still smiling! Got to love go with the flow kids!

  7. It looks fabulous. Mint chip is my favorite. I think it should be apart of any activity!

Happy New Year! Cute pics! Your family is always having fun - could you please give us the top 10 things to do in the SFO area for girls ages 7 and 9? in March? We're willing to drive a few hours. Thank you!

I taught third grade for 15 years. Isn't it a great age? (the most independent they will ever be before the peer pressure really hits)
