Being dragged kicking and screaming into the 21st century

DSC_9996LRI’ve had a plain old cell phone for, well, I don’t even know how long now. It didn’t do email, texting was kind of available but each numeric key was assigned to 3 or 4 letters so you had to clickclickclick painfully to get to the letter you wanted, and it certainly didn’t have a calendar or gee-whizzy games.

It was fine. More than fine, after years of being tethered to my Blackberry for work. But lately it just wasn’t working for our family, and tech-enthusiast TubaDad leaped at the chance to bring me into this century. So here’s my early Christmas present:DSC_9993LR

Merry Christmas to me! It’s a Samsung Epic 4g, if that means anything to any techie folks. TubaDad test drove a bunch of phones for me and pegged this one as the winner (the real slide-out keyboard and kick-butt display were key). I’m still trying to figure it all out, but it sure is fun.

Oh, and as of this week I’m trying out FaceBook too. Good lord, what’s next?

IMG_1579LRPS: These two pictures have absolutely nothing to do with anything, but they crack me up. Here’s Ro eating Sake sushi as fast as she can stuff it in her mouth (seriously, don’t come between our girls and their sushi or you could lose an arm).

And here are the girls this morning in the new glittery silver leggings that they just died over in Target yesterday. (wowza.) Notice who is already in possession of my new toy, by the way. She was playing Angry Birds and it was such an inconvenience to look up long enough for me to snap a pic. The poor dear...DSC_9989LR

Welcome to 2010! I think you'll find you like it! And the kid apps totally make the new phone worth it. So nice to see you on FB!

  6. In no time, you'll wonder how you ever lived without that phone!

Facebook is fun but it can also get to be totally overwhelming. Sometimes updates from family get lost in all of the other updates from my more "chatty" friends.

But there are lots of things that I'll share there that I won't share on my blog.

    Have fun!

My phone just died (earlier this afternoon JUST died), and while I liked the Samsung, it's quite a bit heavier than the iPhone. Did not want to have to upgrade until next year. Hope you like yours! BTW, had to employ you barf bucket strategy last night. Good times.

  10. TOTALLY agree with Joy. Angry Birds is total crack :) My husband has a Droid and I play that game when he's not using the phone :)

  11. Greg came home with one of these fancy phone things a few months ago. I couldn't unmute it yesterday, and my friend and I with countless degrees between us couldn't figure it out! I thought we were going to pee from laughing. But my last phone was one step up from a passenger pigeon, so it was time.

I like FB. I've connected to all sorts of really nice friends and received fantastic advice. I just remind everyone to "Keep it light! We're too old for drama and personal business!!"

You don't have to ask us twice for sushi. YUM at this house!

    Best, Indiana Lori

Hope you enjoy FB, I am on it and it has enabled me to reconnect with many that I would not have otherwise done. Welcome to FB.

  15. merry christmas :). i loved my phone for a about a week now it just seems like way too much in a phone. maybe that's just me. it's convenient at work but other than that, the touch screen drives.me.to.drink. (wait until you're on the phone and have to cradle it- oh the places you will inadvertently go). there's probably a button for that, to prevent the screen from being usable while talking? i'm a techtard.

    it's still great fun.

i am on FB but almost never go there. i am lame that way!

Your girls are living life to the fullest! My girls LOVE sashimi too-they can't go by a goldfish in a tank without being reminded of sashimi.
Alex regrets the day we introduced them to sashimi because our restaurant bill skyrocketed.

OMG, welcome to the 21st century - did you feel anything different? I am still working my way up to that fancy phone. Too funny.

Oh I forgot - also let me be your friend on Facebook.

  22. I've been contemplating these smart phones for the past week - I'm getting one in January - I can't wait. It will replace my $20 walmart phone - so I know how excited you are.

  23. I'm the same as you. I still have a regular old cellphone and C is trying to get me to switch. I don't even know how to use his Ipod touch. Jammer on the other hand has it down pat. And FB? I'm there too but barely, just to check in on everyone else.

  24. Cool new toy! Glad the girls...I mean you, are happy with it!

Now, about this whole FB thing. If you even consider dropping blogging for FB we're going to have to have a serious talk. Heh...as serious as they come between us anyway. Have fun but hurry back to blogging!

Your sweeties are just too cute for words. Miss all of you terribly!!

  25. Hooray!! Merry Christmas to you! I am sure you will love your new phone:)

  26. I also went kicking and screaming. Even though the fam got one of those fancy phones for me too, I still don't know where it is half the time and how to charge it.

Don't become to tech savvy....I need someone to hang on the past with me.

  27. If I had a nickle for every time one of my girls asked me if they could play on my iPod Touch, I could afford one of those high-techy phones! But then, I'd never get it away from the girly-os, so what would be the point?

Have fun on FB, but expect your blogging to go way, way down!
