We're in la la land
It's road trip weekend and we are on the move! That's right, we put out an extra bowl of food for the cats today and took off to L.A. for the Pageant of the Masters, a cool art show (sort of). Basically they paint a whole bunch of people to look like famous paintings. Yeah I know it sounds weird, but it's REALLY neat.
Anyhow, we loaded up the Explorer, paid about half a month's salary to fill up the tank, and hit the road. On the way we stopped in a diner to use the restroom and TubaDad's eyes lit up at when he saw this "chicken-fried steak double skillet" sign. It's pretty much a Texas boy's dream dinner (or breakfast, I'm told - gag). Needless to say, we did NOT have this. Instead we stocked up on M&M's and cornnuts (much healthier, haha) and got back on the road.
The sun was wicked and low, so twisted TubaDad's hat on sideways to cut the rays. Pretty creative, I thought, but TubaDad teased me about looking like a rapper for the rest of the ride. Hey don't laugh - it worked!
Once we got here we checked in to the Westin and it is awesome!!! Beautiful art everywhere, down comforters, and my favorite part: instead of having "do not disturb" signs to hang on the doors, they have these (click the picture to see a bigger version and read what it says):
Have you ever seen a funnier door sign? Now you just know I'm going to have to "accidentally" put it in my suitcase and take it home to hang on our bedroom door... Hee!
PS: Yes we understand that once Funshine is here we will not be able to just "put out an extra bowl of food" and take off on a roadtrip... We are fully prepared for this harsh reality. Almost. Sort of. Well okay, we're not quite there yet, but we'll get used to the idea...
