Hey that's cool
I just got an email from Scholastic (!) saying that I was a finalist for the Scholastic Parent & Child magazine Mommy Blogger Awards. As Ro has been saying lately "Wow weezers!"
If you feel like voting for Salsa in China (or any of the other blogs), cast your vote here. It's one-click voting, no sign-ups required or anything like that, and voting is open through March 13. They'll feature the five winners on the Scholastic web site and in the June/July 2009 issue of Parent & Child.
To whoever nominated me and whoever votes, I'm sending you a big thank you and some gritty-but-awesome Ro and Ree hugs -- they're playing in the sandbox right now and, since I'm daring to type on the computer instead of refereeing the activity, the amount of sand actually staying in the box is questionable...
Cheers!
PS: I've got four posts started and hanging out there in my drafts folder just mocking me, so please let me know which one you'd prefer to see next and I'll buckle down and finish it:
1. Chocolate taste-testing results
2. Talking about adoption is hard
3. I'm not a great mom
4. You're watching American Idol, aren't you?

ReplyDeleteCongratulations!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations! But you aren't #1 right now? I am shocked!!
ReplyDeleteOh- and I'd go with the next post of adoption isn't easy to talk about
Hey that is cool! My vote is in, hope you win!!
ReplyDeleteOh and I would like to know about the "adoption" one.
Not sure if you are talking about "talking about it with friends" or "talking about it with your girls" but either one is hard and it will be hard for me when the time comes to tell my little one.
I actually stopped going out with some friends because I was introduced like "the one who adopted from China."
Congrats- I have never been brave enough to leave a comment but have been reading your blog for a long time & love it! So I was more than happy to vote for you. I also would love to see the American Idol post--or any of your post for that matter. My DD is 4 and loves when I am reading your blog, she loves to see your girls and always says "Mommy, I wish I could be friends w/those 2 pretty girls".
ReplyDeleteCongratulations!!!! That's a big honor!

I just voted for you!! I am pulling for you because I have had your blog bookmarked since before Ro and Ree's referral. It has helped me through my long wait with lots of smiles and laughs. My older kids always peek over my shoulder to see what the cute twins are doing! Now that I have my referral (YEAH!) and am waiting to travel I would love to see the talking about adoption is hard post. Because, well, it is.

ReplyDeleteTopics 2 and 3 both for sure! We are really starting to see all little ways the conversation can lead into adoption, the doors are there, but what an intricate can of worms. Love your blog, but you always seem so in control and on the sunny side.
ReplyDelete#2 please. My girl is close in age to your 2. I'd love to hear how you are tackling this topic.

ReplyDeleteI voted! I vote for the American Idol post. Just for fun.
ReplyDeleteP.S. I voted 3 times. Is that cheating? I closed my web browser and opened another one and it let me vote twice on my computer, and then I voted from my husband's laptopt too. Shhhhh............don't tell! :)
Congratulations! I was happy to cast my vote for your blog.

ReplyDeleteI'd like to see #2, personally. It's not that I don't love the light posts -- I do -- but you're equally good at the more weighty discussions, and I'd like to see a few more of them.

ReplyDeleteI am tying this while holding my brand new little (sleeping) girl and I'm already finding myself stumbling over the language of explaining to people how she got here. (And I've had YEARS to prepare for this, you'd think I would have worked it out by now.)
I'd love to hear what you have to say on the topic.
Adoption one!

Andrea
Good Luck.. I just voted. We love your website. Even my daughter in college checks on the girls regularly and she is always telling me things I need to tell you. I keep telling her just to comment herself ;0) .. I don't think she's been brave enough yet but she loves your girls!
ReplyDeleteYou've got my vote, Mama!
ReplyDeleteI'm voting for ya!
ReplyDeleteOh, and "talking about adoption is hard"
congrats ... my vote is in ... like many other folks commenting here, I'd love to see your thoughts on talking about adoption. When I meet folks who mention they've adopted (or their child is of a different race) - I think back to your post about the "she thinks i'm her mommy" lady in the park and how much that snide comment hurt. i usually end up casually using mommy/daddy in a sentance before leaving (i.e., your mommy is keeping you nice and cozy today). I have mentioned a few times that a close friend of mine adopted, but suspect that may prompt eye-rolling among some parents. Would love to know more about talking about adoption from your perspective.
ReplyDeleteI nominated you! :D I was reading the issue of the magazine a month or so ago, and they had a page with info about this, and I thought you would be perfect for this award!
ReplyDeleteYou get my vote!
Congrats on your nomination! You absolutely have my vote! I just went to my home study group yesterday and there was another couple there adopting from China and I, of course asked, "Do you read Salsa in China? It's my favorite blog!"
ReplyDeleteI'd love to read what you have to say about talking about adoption.
Congrats again!
I voted! For your blog of course:)!
ReplyDeleteGood luck.
adoption, adoption!! congratulations on the nomination!!
ReplyDeleteI voted for you! Can we vote daily? I also vote on #2 and #3. Any of them would be good. I enjoy all your posts!
ReplyDeleteI have been a LONG time reader of your blog and I think it's FANTASTIC that you're up for winning an award (BTW...I just voted for you)! I've been wanting to adopt from China for YEARS now, but by the time we are actually getting to that point where we can afford it, I had health issues come up. So now it's questionable as to whether or not we'll be able to adopt. In the mean time, thanks for sharing your stories with us. I LOVE THEM!
ReplyDeleteooh can you do the american idol post? and good job on the scholastic thing i voted for you and told all my friends to!
