There's hardly anything better than a beautiful blue-sky day

The girls are so fascinated by sealife right now that we finally bought a membership to the Monterey Aquarium, and now we're going to get our money's worth, damnit! Heh. Anyhow, this morning we grabbed some roadtrip food, got out of the house as early as we seem to be capable of getting out (8:47, which is ok but we were actually shooting for 8:30, sigh), and were there at the aquarium minutes after it opened. Oh yeah! First stop was the octopus tank (it's all about the octopus for Ro), but the darned creature was sleeping and barely visible all crunched up in the corner. Ro was less than impressed. We assured her that he/she would most certainly wake up later (which actually turned out to be a lie, oops) and hustled the girls on to some more mobile and cooperative fish. It was a fun time, and since we got there early this time we actually got to see the whole aquarium, a huge first for the Salsa Family. I snap a pic of the girls in this gigantic shell every time we visit, and it's kind of fun to see how they change. Ro left, Ree right: DSC01828 Feeding the penguins was really cool. The lady in charge of the talk was interesting and engaging, and when it was time for questions little Ree threw her hand in the air and asked "Why do penguins swim?" Cute: The penguin feeding was fun -- they gave a nice talk and Ree asked the speaker a question My fave pic of the day. The girls always squeal and dance when the wave crashes over their heads in the wave tunnel: DSC01835m The sky really doesn't get any prettier than this. Wow. Ro (seen here) and Ree barely made it out of the car before they grinned, kicked off their shoes, and plopped down right in the middle of the path: DSC01852 Since we (once again) didn't plan ahead, these were the only sand-toy-like items we could scrounge up in the car. It amuses me that they're playing with a Pringles can, an icecream can, and a water bottle: DSC01866m Sweet beach bums: DSC01888m Oh my gosh, the self-timer on that little purse camera actually worked and the camera stayed balanced on that icecream can without falling over into the sand! I just love this family shot. Good 'ole self timer! It's hard to beat a beautiful blue-sky day in the charming town of Monterey. We'll be back soon.

  4. What a great picture of you all in the sand!

It was so nice to meet you all today, sorry for the stalkerish-like greeting - I've followed your blog for a long time and it seemed so funny to meet you while we were on vacation! Your girls are super-cute (as expected) and I love that TubaDad didn't look at me like a crazy woman! Some hubbies don't seem to get the blog thing, LOL.

Funny thing was we met another adoption friend unexpectedly from CO (that I knew from chinadigitalscrapbooks.com) up by the penguins right after meeting you all!

Tell Ro the octopus was still sleeping when we finally got around to that section too :( Kaylee Tao Tao was a little disappointed, but had fun picking up all the starfish way further out of the tank than the lady wanted her too!

    Take care!

  7. Hello from Atlanta, Ga

I don't comment everyday but I've never missed one of your posts!
I love them and wait with baited breath for a new one and pics of the girls. Oh my goodness they are beautiful and full of spunk.
I did children's tea parties at my Tea Room here in Atlanta and I would love to give the twins one if we lived closer. I have two granddaughters that follow along with me, Ilana 5yrs old and Sadie 3 yrs old. They love the girls too and whenever they come over the first thing we do is read all the posts and look at all the pictures they've missed.
Thank you so much for taking the time to share with us.
Miss Lila 60 something, Ilana 5, Sadie 3.
    Bless you all.

The beach pics are the best and it looks so nice and warm. The clear blue sky with the waves crashing in, you captured it perfectly!

Heh, there really is a great reason for all that road trip - sand toys!!

The fam picture is the best!

Love you friends! Miss you like crazy! xoxo

  13. What a great family shot!! Don't you love it when everything cooperates?

My kids are younger, but we just got an aquarium membership, too. Worth it, money-wise, plus then you don't feel as bad about wasting money when you don't manage to stay very long at a time. :-)

  17. I don't know if I have every commented before, but I have been a long time stalker (reader) of your blog. There are some days that are hard for me and it always makes me smile to log in and see that you have posted.

I hae enjoyed watching your sweet girls grow and change right before our eye. And I love it when you are able to get a pic of ALL of you. The last beach pic is just wonderful! I agree, it needs to be framed and placed maybe on the family room wall, not to mention the grandparents would more than likely love it as well. I love the look on Ree's face! Should have known that you could get them both to smile the same way at the same time...thank you for always making me smile!

The family shot is awesome! But I must admit that I do feel somewhat tormented (envious, naturally) by the beach shots.

  27. Fuzz and fuzzlet: No way! I hadn't seen those, they're going to have to jump right into the girls' Easter Baskets.

March 2007 adoptive mom: It was SO GREAT to meet you guys yesterday!! Shoot me an email if you guys make your way any further north and want to hang out at the park this week -- we know a great one that has cool features for all ages.

Miss Lila: Thanks! And the girls would go crazy for a tea party, wish we were closer.

Copperdog: Yep, it was chocolate icecream. TubaDad thought the can was neat and brought it home one day -- it was tasty too. The girls have since appropriated it for a piggybank and put it in the car in case we go near a coin-operated ride and they need a quarter. Always thinkin' those two...

Tea: Whoa, that is quite a bit of snow. Yeesh. Doesn't *quite* look like flip-flop weather yet. ;-)

Anon: The cute little applique flower t-shirts are from Kiddy Up on the Etsy web site. I love them, and so do the girls, and the prices are hard to beat. The long-sleeved stripey undershirts are by Boden, and they're hand-me-downs from some beloved twin friends.

  31. It is SO beautiful right now here in the Bay!! LOVE IT!! When Jacob was the girls age we had memberships to the Aquarium and I swear that's where we lived for almost 3 years for 2 or 3 days a week. Our favorite nap spot was in the jelly room or upstairs in the outer bay. AHHHH the memories. My hubby even proposed to me there. :)

Glad you guys are enjoying the spring weather and good family time.

OK, here's another beach idea for you the next time you are at the beach. Set the girls on a log that is stable and suitable. Take a photo from the back and then take one from the front. Use the backwards one for a front of a card and then put the forward shot on the inside. Makes a neat Xmas card.
