There’s no stopping them now (like there ever was…)

Well the girls have officially graduated from Pre-K -- we had the graduation party tonight to commemorate the big event. They’ve eaten some pink Hello Kitty graduation cake, received their diplomas from daddy, and are now busy packing their new little backpacks and pretending to be in Kindergarten.

Hands-down the best part of the evening was when the girls marched down the stairs in their caps and gowns to the tune of Pomp and Circumstance, played by TubaDad, my dad, and Catherine. The girls thought it was just a hoot. They wiggled and giggled and pranced all around the kitchen. (Ree purple, Ro pink)DSC_6828LR DSC_6817LR DSC_6823LR DSC_6832LR

Our sweet babies! They helped me decorate today, by the way, and were (as usual) quite enthusiastic with their tape application. I wonder if anyone noticed that the decorations are clinging to the walls with an entire roll of tape?DSC_6825LR

I gave a short little speech (that I think made my parents cry, although they’re not owning up to it) and then the girls boisterously demonstrated some new skills in math, spelling, recitation of our address and phone numbers, and athletic skills like swinging and monkey bars.DSC_6833LRDSC_6838LR

Then we came back inside, my mom read a kindergarten poem while the girls held up the letters spelling out kindergarten (this was a little trickier than it sounds, I kept dropping the letters while trying to hand them over -- eesh). Then we all cheered and they tossed their hats in the air while laughing with delight.DSC_6845LR DSC_6846LR DSC_6847LR DSC_6848LR DSC_6872LR

(Please excuse the ring pops in every picture. The girls were a smidge emotional after waking from an unplanned nap, and we were happy to hand over a little sugar to see those huge smiles.)

Then we had an awesome BBQ and kicked up our heels in the backyard for a few hours. The big girls were so cute helping Hannah and watching out for her. Now if only they wouldn’t knock her down with their extreme loving, heh heh.DSC_6867LRDSC_6880LR DSC_6884LR DSC_6886LR DSC_6890LR

Congratulations big girls. We are so proud of you and enjoyed the heck out of your little party.

Tomorrow is the big 4th of July day (I know, I know, it’s only the 3rd, but that’s how our neighborhood does it). We’ve got fun plans for a parade, some matching Wela Wear dresses, a 4th party, and fireworks. Yay!!

  1. Congratulations Ro and Ree!! What a treat it was for Hannah and I to be here to celebrate your pre-K graduation!!

  7. Congratulations girls! There is this one pic, where they both looks VERY grown-up... You can almost glimpse how they will look in 13 years or so :-) Happy 4th!

  8. Coolest.thing.ever. Not even going to lie, after reading their story for so long, and watching my own little one headed off to Kindergarten next month (gasp!), I teared up at Pomp & Circumstance.

Big congrats to our tiny girls!

I love the way you create such memory makers for your girls - and everyone else! Best!

Pomp and Circumstance is a tear jerker for me too! Love the little graduation party and I'm sure the girls will remember it for a long time, I actually still remember my preschool graduation! Also wanted to add I've been following both you and Catherine for years, before Ro and Ree joined your family, so it's also a tear jerker to see you and your girls all together! I also loved the picture of Wela and Hannah dancing, too cute!

  11. Hey that chalk writing actually says Happy Birthday R... They can write already? Won't they be bored in Kindergarten?

You guys rock...how cool was that celebration?!!!

  13. Congrats girls!! :)

  14. Wow, is there anything your folks can't do? They are amazing! You are truly blessed.

You are creating such great memories for them!

  15. I love the giggling during their walk! You guys are making such great memories for your daughters! You are going to literally blink and see them walking down as high school seniors....enjoy every minute because time flies! Thanks for sharing your family with us.

With all the hoopla for Pre-K I can't wait to see what you do when they graduate from elementary school! And then there's middle school and then high school and then college. Lots of good celebrating in the future.

  17. Too much cuteness and fun! Loved reading about your fun with Catherine and Hannah too!

  18. Congrats to Ro and Ree!! You did a wonderful job capturing the celebration - what a fantastic idea!

I remember a while back you posted about making a decision whether or not to start the girls in Kindergarten early. I guess you did decide to go ahead and send them early. I am struggling with this decision as Naomi also has an October birthday. She is 3 now and can already write her name and other words, the alphabet, etc. I'd love to hear more about how you came to your decision (maybe it was a post that I missed).

Best wishes to your soon-to-be kindergarteners!
