The art gallery is open!

Happy happy joy joy! The artwork hangers are now up in the playroom and Ree (art on the left) and Ro (art on the right) are THRILLED. They had such a ball looking through their archive boxes and deciding exactly what they wanted to hang tonight.

Here’s a close-up of the wire holders (which are wire curtain rods from Ikea) coming out from the wall. We anchored these into studs, but I’m guessing there’s still a high probability that they’re not twinado-proof and will need repair soon. We told Ro and Ree that there is absolutely no climbing on, hanging from, or tying sister to these wires. Yeah... We’ll see... Their choice of destructive method will probably come out of left field and be cunning in a way we can’t have even imagined yet:DSC_8839ORPS-2LR

When the girls create new artwork, they’ll decide which older masterpieces are taken down and put in the filing box and we’ll hang the new pieces. We all love this so much. Before, we were always trying to avoid being buried alive under the freaking paper avalanche. (You know what I mean, right?) So we’d glance at something quickly and then it would get filed away with no love and no attention. Now we’re all set up to heap adoration on the artists and the masterpieces. As it should be.DSC_8867LR

Huge thanks to my folks for coming over and painstakingly hanging the new wires -- TubaDad’s at a concert this week and there is no possible way I could have done this myself. Not in a million years. And thanks to Pinterest, from whence all good ideas (like this one) come.

~~~~~~
Where to get it: The wire and corner pieces are packaged as Ikea’s Dignitet curtain wire kit. You can make the wires as long or as short as you want. Each kit was $12.99, and we used three of them. You’ll need your own screws. We also got two of the Dignitet fastener kits for $4.99 each, which had 24 clips each. These items are only available for sale in Ikea stores (in the curtain-rod sections) and are not sold online.
    This is a great way to display the art work and has given me an idea for displaying photos on a rotating basis. I hope the girls do not swing from them as they could remove a wall in your house!
    Heh, guess I shouldn't mention to the girls how much fun it would be to zipline over to the bookcase, right? :o)
  6. Love this! I'm always trying to figure out what to do with kids' artwork. That said, this house has such a small amount of good wall space that it won't work here.
    Love this idea. Our preschool is also doing something pretty cool this year. You may of already heard about it but it is called Artsonia. You don't have to do it through a school do it but you can do your own. You upload pictures of their artwork and it is saved. You can have the artwork made into LOTS of things...postacards...cups...tshirt...cards...quilt squares...and what I am excited about is I am going to have my daughters all made into a book at the end of the year. We cannot possibly keep all of the artwork but this way we will at least have a book of it. Also you can send out the links to friends and family and they can be "fans" of the kids artwork and leave them comments. If the school does it it is a little fundraiser too!! Check it out if you don't know about it --it is very cool!!
  10. YES! Yes. Please let us know the details when they figure out how to take it down, because I can use that info when I put ours up. I shall do the same. I can promise Sara & Kelly's explanation will start with, "We were doing an experiment AND...."
    This is what you call an evolving post :). Every time I read it you have changed/added/deleted information. Clever!
