While TubaDad slept off some more malicious jetlag, the girls and I packed a lunch and went for a short little hike near the cabin. Ro and Ree were REALLY hoping to see some bears – me not so much… This might look like a funky artistic shot, but really my only choice was to dangle the mini tripod from a nearby tree and this is just how it came out. Fun.
We had a nice slow morning at the cabin and then set off exploring. One of the best places we found was called Sand Harbor. Has anyone ever been here? It was SO COOL:
Gorgeous as far as the eye could see, in any direction:
Definitely skip-worthy:
And gasp-worthy:
And jump-worthy:
And climb-worthy. We must have climbed a hundred boulders, and the girls still wanted to get higher and higher:
We only got them out of there by promising that we’d find something else just as cool (not too hard in Tahoe):
Ok, probably TMI, but this is my view from inside any public toilet. The girls know to keep their feet where I can see them (for safety), and they like to see if I can guess if I’m looking at one girl’s feet or a mismatched pair of both girls’ feet. They dance, kick, pretend to walk, and laugh with glee:
Cheers!
a) some of your pictures look like post cards, b) how cute with the feet. Not TMI, just a good idea.
ReplyDeleteAw, thanks!
DeleteOkay, I've noticed that suddenly, the girls seem to be dressing alike!! Planned? Random? All the time or some of the time?!?! Inquiring minds want to know! :)
ReplyDeletePlanned, on their part, and only some of the time (maybe because they really don't have many identical clothes). We just got a big shipment of hand-me-down clothes from their twin buddies, so they've got a lot of new matching bottoms to play with. I adore seeing them "dressed like twins" as they call it, by the way. I think they're having fun with it because they've never done it, and now that Ree's hair is different folks don't get them mixed up even if they're dressed the same.
DeleteLove how you captured the sparkling thingy on the water! Very beautiful also love how the sun looked when you took the picture.
ReplyDeleteYou take awesome pictures! :)
Cheryl
I have my girls do the same thing when we can't all fit in the stall. They usually each put a foot under so I know where they are(;
ReplyDeleteIt's good peace of mind, isn't it?! My friend Catherine told me about it years ago and I filed it away.
DeleteWe're going to Tahoe in a couple of weeks and we will be sure to check this place out as well as Tahoe Pizza!

Awesome! You guys will love it. Tahoe Pizza Co is South Shore and Sand Harbor is on the Northern part of the lake (Incline Village). It's $12 to park (and worth every penny). They also have bathrooms there. If you're on the South Shore, Tallac is a great free non-crowded place to go also. Easy parking (stay to the right as you drive in), nice clean bathrooms, and you park yourself on the sand in the sun if you want it and in the shade of pine trees if you want.
DeleteI have to ask...have you ever seen bears on your hikes? Even when you were growing up? That would just freak me out.
ReplyDeleteI personally haven't (I think I'd pee myself), but there have been enough problems recently that everyone in the area switched to those metal bear-proof trash containers. My little brother also saw a bear on our deck last time he went up to the cabin -- his dog was going crazy inside the cabin and alerted them.
DeleteHey thanks Deirdra!
ReplyDeleteLovely pics but I think the girls have really grown.I won't recognize them when we get home.
ReplyDeletelove, wela
We have a picture of us one our honeymoon on the same rocks back in 2010. I love Tahoe.
ReplyDeleteOMG! I wouldn't believe it was real if I didn't see the girls in your pictures! BEAUTIFUL! Jealous.
ReplyDeleteHi M3 - yep, Sand Harbor is one of our faves. Parking fills in summer. Drop kiddos (with an adult of course), park on street and hike in. We will be there week of 1/2 July/Aug staying in King's Beach. Ginny (from RWC) BTW - have you ever brought Ro/Ree to a Heritage Camp? We went to the one in Colo - Latin Amer camp - fab. They also have one for families of kiddos adopted from China.
ReplyDeleteGreat advice, thanks Ginny!! Hope you guys have a ball there, it just doesn't get any prettier. Oh, and we loved the burgers at Jason's Grille in King's Beach if you haven't tried them.
DeleteSend me a pic or two of your trip if you feel like it!
And no, we've never done a heritage camp, although they sound great!
Thank you for the great tips! We're so excited to be heading west!!

I do the same thing in public bathrooms! I feel so much better about making them do that.
ReplyDeleteOh gosh these are so beautiful! WOW!
