Let the summer begin!

Summer officially starts in this house in 4 hours, and we are READY!

My job ends for the summer today (an awesome benefit of working in the same school district as Ro and Ree), the secret summer-kickoff buckets to surprise the girls when they come home have been assembled, the last school lunches for the year have been packed (thank heaven), the perfect-attendance certificates have been collected (these girls just don’t get sick), and they have taken their final walk to school for the year.

It’s been a great year (Ree left, Ro right in both pics):

  • Ro and Ree’s styles have definitely changed this year. During third grade they gradually stopped wearing skirts and dresses and switched to jeans, t-shirts, shorts, and tennis shoes. Ree made the switch a few months before Ro.
  • Both girls grew a whole bunch (both in height and in looks). They are now 501/4” – Ree might be a hair shorter but my measuring technique is sketchy.
  • They still have separate bedrooms (although Ree thinks she’d like to share over the summer while Ro wants to keep her own room).
  • They chose different haircuts, Ree’s is short, sassy, and cute and Ro’s is long and beautiful.
  • They’re funnier than they were last year – something about their senses of humor (or maybe confidence) has blossomed this year and we regularly find overselves dying laughing over something one or the other says.

Ro's haircut makes her look so sophisticated. They are both such beauties - they are gonna break some hearts in the not-too-distant future.

  2. Yeah!!! Have an awesome summer! So, where are you headed to on your vacation(s)?! Also, when do you guys go back to school? It seems you get out pretty late in the summer. Our schools have been out for a few weeks now.

    1. No big trips this summer (we think) - Monterey, Tahoe, and camps. We're thinking of heading to Harry Potter World for the girls' bdays in the fall. We go back in late Aug - summer is just a tad over 2 months (about a month too short if you ask me).

Darling, simply darling. It is so interesting and fun to watch them grow and blossom. I thought you had created a large bedroom for the two of them. Did they swtich to singletons mid year?

    1. Yep, they went back to two bedrooms a while ago (can't really remember when, maybe in fall? late summer?).

    1. No Hawaii this summer - you'll have to go and send me pics so I can pretend I'm there. :-)

  6. I'm curious- do the girls go by Ro and Ree in "real life", or do they go by their formal names?
Have a great summer! Your girls are at such a great age!

Now that you are not working, you'll have time for daily blog posts - right? ;o)

  8. Happy summer to you all! I too work in my girls' district and it's great having the same time off!

We will be taking a trip to the Monterey area next month and would love your top suggestions for things to do with kids. My girls are 9 and almost 13, if that makes any difference. Thanks!

    1. Hi Gina, rocks/tidepools/beach at Lovers Point in Pacific Grove, the aquarium in Monterey, biking along Coastal Trail, and tree climbing at Oak Newton park in Monterey (not really a big park, just lots of insane climbing trees). Mirror Maze on Cannery Row (pricey but fun if you've never done it). Dennis the Menace Park in Monterey (huge kids park). Those are the top faves for my 8-year olds.

    2. Thank you! We're trying to stay away from amusement park type places and you've given me some fantastic ideas! We can't wait to go! We leave on Sunday and will be there all next week. Really looking forward to the cooler weather! It's supposed to be 111-112 by next Thursday here!

    3. Monterey will be WAY cooler then, which we love too. :-) 112 sounds like Phoenix where my little bro lives - whew.

I know what you mean about funnier, my baby is almost 3 now and though I miss chubby baby stage, he just gets more fun. Are you doing any camps this summer?
